Hello everyone! Just wanted to share my nerve wrecking experience with you this morning! I have an '07 hatchback with manual tranny. Yesterday I tried starting my car but it wouldn't start! So I gave it a little push and managed to jump start it. This morning I had the same problem! I once again managed to jump start it. As I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on my way to work, I released the clutch a little too soon and stalled....then I couldn't start her up again!! :mad: I was stuck there for 20 minutes trying to start the car to no avail! I was just about to give up when out of complete frustration I slammed down the clutch pedal and turned the key....and the car started.....

Moral to this story....before you call a tow truck...make sure the bloody winter floor mat isn't obstructing the clutch pedal!!!!

The wires behind clutch start switch was a good place to splice in a kill switch. I did it on a 2002 Dodge Ram.

My 2000 Celica, you had to push VERY hard on the clutch pedal to get it to start. I installed a switch in the dash to bypass the clutch safety switch. When I let others drive it, I turned the switch off. I was the only person who knew what the switch did. Might be something for you to add! Or even just a spacer to the existing switch.

Nah..it won't be necessary. I just have to put more pressure on the clutch pedal and it starts just fine. All it took was 2 days for me to figure that out! :biggrin:

i tried to splice the wires before and connect them together but the switch must have a resistance. my way was duct tape :) hold the switch in

ROTFL, im assuming u've always driven an auto


a clutch is in a standard tranny car, its a pressure plate that disengages the transmission from the engine flywheel to allow for a change of gear. the clutch plate is controlled by a clutch pedal that is located next to the brake in the car (so 3 pedals)

on most modern cars, there is a clutch depress sensor, which needs to be pressed to start the car to ensure the car is not in gear which would cause the car to jump and excess ware on the starter.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, but it wasn't necessary, I was simply joking around. As we say in the military, there is no such thing as stupid questions, just stupid people! :thumbsup:

Actually, while my Yaris is an auto (and I do prefer it); I pretty much drove nothing but stick shifts for the first 25+ years I was driving. I bought a 2005 Jeep Wrangler that was an auto in 2007, and when the time came in 2008 for me to find a replacement for my 1996 VW Passat wagon (which had a five speed), I test drove both variants of the Yaris and found the auto to be more to my liking.

But I still have two motorcycles for when I get the urge to manually shift! :headbang:
