anything made by Directed

i have an ASTRA777 alarm with no complaints. installed it myself in an afternoon..

and no, an alarm cannot void your warranty..

can someone post a BOARD WIDE STICKY about this whole "warranty voiding" issue?

Prestige APS997, made by Audiovox. I love mine, it has a lot of features and a great range. Best of all you can get it online for about $130

Ive posted the Magnason Moss Act MANY times before.. doesnt matter, as some think a different oil filter will void warranty, let alone an intake/exhaust/alarm/springs/etc/etc.

Do you need power-locks in order to have remote starter?

Bro dont go with anything other than Viper or Clifford...I own a clifford and it was $450 installed at my local shop its not worth going with a half ass alarm just do it big they are so useful and the quarter mile range of saftey is awsome cant beat that and if you contact your insurance company to notify them you have such a good alarm they will decrease ur monthly rate by a little not a huge amount but some.

If all you want is a remote start, no, you can buy remote start-only systems that you can hook up, they don't require power locks.

Directed's Viper brand is pretty good. Installed a Viper 5900SST in mine a couple of months ago and it still works very well.

Some insurance companies give you a discount on your insurance if you have a good alarm system.

Don't count out Autopage or Compustar.

They make excellent alarm/remote start/2-way paging systems for vehicles.

My friend has a autopage on his sedan yaris and he looks at my clifford and always tells me i should of waited it was just a couple more bucks and yours is so much better, range wise, remote starter is nicer but yea its up to u and how much you have

A good install is also very important, sometimes even more important than the system itself.

But yes, I agree, Clifford makes solid systems.

Make sure your installer is experienced and knows wtf he/she is doing!

EDIT: Wondering even if its worth emptying my pocket for an alarm if I live in a pretty calm neighbor and all I do is prob go to school and home, work..mostly public places..plus im getting lojack installed on the 6th..

IM thinking just remote start..
any fav brand on those? unless i can get that compustar chris07lb for a really low price.. lol ^_^

If you're doing remote start only... Bulldog is cheap, good quality, easy install, reliable, and has good range.

I got the viper 560. I haven't tested out the range but it works perfect from at least a block away. It's supposed to have a range of a quarter mile which is about 2-3 city blocks. It basically has every little single feature you could think to change the setting of the alarm like turning off various sensitivity points on the car. Altogether it seems like a pretty solid system. Keyless entry and remote start work flawlessly. The transmitter's buttons are just hard enough to push down that it won't accidentally go off in my pocket. It cost me 350 with install. I have a lifetime warranty and if anything goes wrong with my car because of the system, my dealership works with the shop who put it in, so they will both cover it.
