The location is going to be a very difficult choice to make. You can't make everyone happy. I don't mind driving, but not to the other side of the country where I would normally take a plane. I still think the meet should be in the center of the US. The majority, 57.14% of the members seem to agree that it should not be in a location that makes driving impossible for most of us. I am not being nasty, these are the facts at this point in time.

SoCal isn't the only place where we have Yaris owners...lol
If I'm willing to drive, you guys down south better be able to put out as well!
And DisneyWorld is way better.

Being "considerate", Jumpman is trying to have the location as center as possible.

He can add Nashville...But at the end of the day, the polls will show where most people are willing to drive.

I'll take a week off from work and try to avoid summer classes~

And looks like Texas and Missouri are tied.

Depending on the date of this huge meet, folks should consider the weather!

Now, I'm not trying to sway anyone's vote; but temps here have been in the upper 70s/low 80s this past week. And in addition to the attractions listed in the first post, we've got the Texas Hill Country starting along the northwest edge of San Antonio (http://www.visitsanantonio.com/visitors/plan/local-info/index.aspx). There are some beautiful roads and scenery out there, and lots of places to visit! Here are a few shots of Sprocket out in the Hill Country...

Since I live in Colorado I'd like either the Springs or Denver, but would be willing to drive up to 1000 miles to attend a car show. As many have already mentioned, picking the location for a national event is difficult. A lot of people don't like driving very far, but if you don't have it in a centralized location nobody will show up (or very few anyway).

All through the 90's I made pilgrimages from Denver to Indy, Nashville, St. Louis, Detroit, Columbus and even as far away as Portland, Maine & Daytona, Florida in my '88 Fiero GT. Many people from the west coast never made the trips, which was too bad, but the one year they held it in Vegas even fewer people attended because those on the east coast and in the midwest did not want to drive 2000+ miles for the show so only California people were there.

I think anywhere in the central US is your best bet.....just about everyone will have a road trip to get there, but no one group will have to drive an insane distance to get there.

Why are you saying that it was not consider? When I posted saying sure let's put it up there but I didn't know how to added to the poll, I did say that.

And its not all but when you see that the last option is dragging the rest of the options, hopes kinda goes down the drain. I asked is it even worth having 5to 10 people drive a good amount of hours if others arent willing to go?

You tell me.

We can still make it happen.

frownonfun
12-14-2010, 07:42 PM
well i haven't given up. we got St. Louis and San Antonio leading the poll as actual locations so I say we have a run off between those now. Or in a few more days. No rush I guess. Just sayin we can start narrowing it down now. Not every person on the forum is gonna show up but that's obvious. Doesn't matter where we have it. Oh well. You can't win em all.

EDIT: also Garm I totally see where you are coming from on the Nashville thing but nothing is stopping YW members from showing up there if they want. if it's a big event it's likely to draw many of us out and that's good. but i don't see anything wrong with trying to have a separate meet from that one. right? and i'm pretty sure jumpman did openly ask if a mod could add it as a choice.

why?
12-14-2010, 08:27 PM

dude if you really want to do this you need to be the one cheer leading everything. Doing this type of stuff is not easy, it is not something that just takes a little effort. There is a reason promoters make a ton of money, this stuff is hard as heck to do. You need to be the one pushing and pushing and trying and being positive. If you aren't positive about it, don't expect anyone else to be.

JBougie
12-15-2010, 10:33 AM
I'd go if it were in Nashville, but I don't make enough money to leave the southeast.

If it's in STL - it's only a 6 hour drive from you. You're 3 hours from me, and STL is 3 hours from here ... so no excuses :P

JBougie
12-15-2010, 10:38 AM
There is still 6 months left until it's "Go time" for this meet if you want to do it in June - no functions are ever organized that quickly.

Yes, we have some people who bitch because they would have to drive more than 20 minutes - but outside of there, there are plenty of us who are taking this serious and want to do a meet.

Keep up the planning and keep up the organizing. Even if only 8 of us show up, we will still have an awesome time. Then next year it will get bigger, and the year after that, etc.

And I am not up for having a YW meet at IA, personally.

I'm all in for STL. Or Texas even. Really, I'd drive anywhere as long as it wasn't to the West Coast.

JumpmanYaris

you know whats the difference? They get paid for that and I don't .

@ frownonfun thats is why I wanted to make this happen separate this IA meet form it just for us YW members, that was my main goal but looking at the poll like i said hopes goes down but I do still want this to happen even if we end up doing it in IA

I wonder if we could take a spin out at Gateway Raceway if we had a meet here in St. Louis... since NASCAR isn't using it anymore, I think it could use some love.

frownonfun
12-16-2010, 03:28 PM
That'd be sweet but I think it's completely closed. Think they are trying to sell it off. If someone knows how to get in touch with the track owners I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. But I think it's a long shot.

But that gets me thinking, I'm pretty sure Texas Motor Speedway has days where you can bring your car and drive on the track. I'm sure other tracks might have similar accommodations. Even if you aren't big into NASCAR, driving on a high speed track sounds pretty fun.

EDIT: Then again it doesn't even really have to be a NASCAR track. I know there are all kinds of smaller, independent tracks all over the place and maybe it'd be easier to get an event together at one of those.

I don't either, best of luck with it. Like I said before, he decided not to include it as a choice in the first place, it doesn't matter now -- but it means I'm out to focus on IA. I'll stay out of this one now, I don't want to be causing any tension (if I did, I'm sorry).

agreed, all of the locations are quite a haul from NY (especially Texas). I too would like to try and make it to this event. might I make a suggestion have the event in or around Lebanon Kansas. supposedly that is the exact center of the country and would be fair towards all travelers (not biased for one coast or another).

St Louis, Missouri the gateway to the west.
I know I am a noobie, but I will be willing to take a drive up there, I always wanted to take ride up the Gateway arch, take a look at the local parks museums, they got some night life too, oh and casinos I believe. Plus that location is in the center of US. but have to have someone in that area, meeting in a 7/11 parking lot can become boring.

Well other than someone from stl im pretty sure im the closest. Im only bout hr and a half west. I can say gateway would be a great meeting point. On the weekend the dragstrip still open for test and tune and they may still do a little bit of drifting. There are many place for good photos and what not.

As for IA thats is my plan for the big gathering. Only reason i could go to a stl meet is the close location. I dont the i could swing the time off from work with out diggin in to IA plans/funds. But if something in stl were to happen i would def make it a point to head that way.
