DollaZo
12-28-2006, 07:40 AM
$400 - $500
Thats the amount I paid for the springs and installation and that quote is just for installation? Dam.... ur getting robbed.

I don't have any mechanical experience ... so i'll not try to f**k my car
where did u install yourz dollazo?
sewid
12-29-2006, 02:02 AM
Where'd you get the springs from?
ASHRAF
12-29-2006, 02:31 AM
i ordered them from eBay
hasher22
12-29-2006, 06:48 AM
Australian buyers dont have any option but to buy some parts overseas.
Though i was about to buy Tanabe DF's over ebay for $125US though shopping is $100US
Which comes to about 285AUD and the Installation fee might be around $80 which will come to $360AUD just to lower the yaris.
ASHRAF
12-29-2006, 12:42 PM
it is really bad that we are forced to buy overseas stuff
the stores in Australia should start to import yaris and echo stuff
but they really care about the WRX's here so much that they forgot any other model
ASHRAF
12-29-2006, 12:44 PM
and the worst part is really when u want to order exhaust system or body kit which will cost tooo much $$$ shipping the stuff overseas
hasher22
12-29-2006, 05:49 PM
Yea when its all overpriced anyway...........
ASHRAF
12-29-2006, 10:04 PM
when is this ganna end
even the YRX body kit is not available for purchase
the only kit available at the dealership is the sportivo one which is really cannot be noticed
I want to change the whole car appearance to Vitz RS
but it really cost tooo much money
please bring us some accessories!!!
hasher22
12-30-2006, 12:06 AM
Ashraf the YRX bodykit addons are availible.
You have to ring toyota and order them.
http://yaris.toyota.com.au/toyota/vehicle/Accessory/0,5262,3375_662,00.html
Go to Exterior, and its under "Body Enhancement Kit"
ASHRAF
12-31-2006, 02:49 AM
the kit u r talking about is the sportivo kit, not the YRX kit
the YRX kit cannot be ordered by non YRX owners (to keep the YRX special as they said to me)
i think i will try (in stages) to change my car look to the Vitz RS, but this is really expensive
ASHRAF
12-31-2006, 02:52 AM
just for info
MIDAS are going to do it for me for 195$
this is the cheapest price i've found in perth, it is expensive though
sewid
01-01-2007, 02:27 AM
All you need to do to order the YRX kit is take a YRX VIN chassis number to the parts counter at your nearest toyota parts place and order it.
To get a YRX chassis number,go to the nearest Toyota dealer and look at the VIN number on any YRX they have in the lot.
If they ask why just tell them you cracked it on the gutter. It makes no difference to the guy working there. It's not like its Ferrari trying to maintain exclusivity of their Enzo parts or whatever.

Pedders offers lowering kits for the Yaris. You guys have any feedback on them (product, service, price, etc.)?
ASHRAF
01-06-2007, 01:04 AM
i got a quote of them
$349 for the springs
i did not try pedders
but i prefer tanabe because i use their products before
pedders seems to have nice products though,
as400g33k
01-06-2007, 04:46 AM
$349 incl. installation, alignment, etc? That seems lower than someone posted earlier. Can you post details of that quote, please?
Any Pedders outlet can do it for you. It cost me $560 AUS for coils, installation and wheel alignment. If you get them to do it, tell them to cut the bump stops. If you want to install yourself, the springs are
Front Spring Low
2942 2942 Sports Ryder Coil Spring
Rear Spring Low
2943 2943 Sports Ryder Coil Spring
They retail for $158 for front pair, and $158 for rear pair. They work well with stock shocks. I don't get any bouncing(underdamp) from the front or rear.
Thanks

"They retail for $158 for front pair, and $158 for rear pair"
what a ripoff
ASHRAF
01-06-2007, 02:18 PM
not sure but the price is 349 or 349 + fitting
both ways... it is expensive
Blenjar

SO did you intall them yourself?

Hmmmmmm Ebay sells Tanabe DF's for $130USD and Shipping is $80USD + installation here would be around 80-100AUD right?
so 130USD + 80USD + 100AUD = $369AUD to lower the yaris in aust
In in comparison $349 for the springs alone OR $349 + Installation, we are getting a better deal of ebay. Only about $20 - $30AUD difference? Thats if you want tanabe springs....
Conclusion - Lowering is a bitch!
ASHRAF
01-07-2007, 12:44 AM
No,
I installed them @ MIDAS for AUD$195
I don't have any experience in mechanic and I don't want to risk my car
hasher22,
lowering is expensive but really nice
hasher22
01-07-2007, 02:58 AM
are u serious 200 just to install it.......thats a rip....more than the springs itself....
ASHRAF
01-07-2007, 08:44 AM
it is a rip
but less than pedders
so I thought I'll just go with it
every thing here is expensive
I've asked about custom interiors
$2900 for leather seats - $9000 + for whole custom interior
really expensive prices in here
if anyone knows a place in Perth to do custom interiors for reasonable prices, just tell me about it please
hasher22
01-08-2007, 12:28 AM
i hate australias pricing...
heres the email from pedders
G'day Brian
Thank you for your e-mail regarding your Toyota Yaris to have our
Pedders Sports Ryder lowered coils you would be looking at about the
$640.00 mark fitted and W/Aligned. The coils will lower your vehicle
30-35mm and the spring rate is slightly heavier than the O.E. coils .
This can be done at any of our branches found at our web site at
www.pedders.com.au Or in the White pages under Pedders Suspension.

I have installed springs myself before and it really is a small job not worth anywhere near the money they want to charge you guys.
Stop shopping around for big name suspension rippof merchants and lookup your local low cost mechanic or ask around your friends for a mechanic who will charge by the hour. I have a mate in Annandale who would do it for $40 /hr if I wanted. It would take him about an hour or an hour and a half if he stopped for a couple of beers half way through so yeah...

if u know how to do it, u r in better situation than me
I don't have any experience at all

Hi all,
I noticed you guys talkin bout springs n stuff. Yeah, Pedders is quite pricey. But I must say, it's the best 580 bucks I've spent so far. I actually like the handling of the car more than anything else.
Ride is still supple, yet handling is improved. Also, when fully loaded with three passengers and equipment in the boot...ie. camping gear... the rear doesn't bottom out at all....not matter how big the bumps....
I thought Pedders made the rear a bit high, but now I know why. When fully load the car doesn't have the squat now I'm shitting look which I'm really happy about.
If I had to buy again, I would still buy the pedders.... kinda of wander how the Tanabe's are though...
Thanks all

I personally would not touch Pedders or Kings even if they were the last springs on Earth... How many hours do you think they put in for a specific car in R&D?? They cannot tell me they do at least a couple of hundred hours of testing of every single car to develop such a product that affects the safety of the vehicle.
I can tell you of a friend who've gone from Kings to TRD sportivo suspension kit and shaved over 3 seconds at Wakefield.
If you are going to something, do it properly or don't do it at all.

for me Tanabe springs are working and looking really good
I don't thank that pedderes are the same
but I hadn't test them so it is not fair to judge

Aren't TRDs re-badged? Where does Toyota get theirs? Anyway, toyota charges even more than pedders does, so there.
I guess, you guys are right, buy Tanabes or whatever from ebay then have it installed yourself, or find a mate who can do it for you cheaply...

Hey guys ~
It was really good reading your entries ~ I was planning to pay $460 to have King's lowering springs installed with the installation fee ~ You guys reminded me of eBay ~
I have no money ATM and I need to do Tinting as well ~ So I wasn't ready to pay $460 ~ I think I might know a mate who can do it for me for cheap ~
Tanabe's good? or TRD springs? I just want good springs at a good price and I want no MORE than 40mm drop......I have a YRX......anymore drop and I will scratch her ~
I'm a girl so I don't even PLAN on installing the springs myself but I do know about cars and what I'm doing......that's all I can be sure about ~ I even be able to install myself but I just don't have the money to buy kits and probably no time either ~ Any suggestions on the spring brand and models ~ Thanks ~
BTW......what do you guys say about Fabric Protection and Paint Protection......good/worth the money or waste of money? Need lots of suggestions please ~ Thanks ~

Springs alone.. I wouldn't recommend unless all you plan to do is cruise down the streets at walking pace. I don't recommend it as the shocks will not have enough control over the springs leaving you bob up and down mid corner. As I said, do it once, do it right. Just do the tinting first. Worry about the others later. Tinting will at least cool you down and stop UV rays going in the car (and you).
As for fabric protection, go to the supermarket and buy a few cans of scotchguard. I think when I last bought some, it was like $18/can. It's no different to scotchguarding your sofas etc.
Paint protection. Just wax it. In the industry, we call it the "Ming and Sting" (Ming being the "protection" company's name). See bird droppings, just rinse it off as soon as you can.

I've found a Tinting [ackage (tinting, paint protection and fabric protection) all for $390 ~ You think that's a good deal......I think so ~ I mean.....they use 3M film which I know is pretty good ~ Usually for a package like that would cost $600 ~ Do you think I should take it or still just do tinting and do the rest myself ~
I don't do waxing.....I don't know how ~ Maybe I do......but no time as of yet ~

Well, for something that cost $40 max to do fabric protection (not that you need it anyway unless you have slobs in the car), I don't see why you have to do it.
Paint protection I don't even believe in that stuff. The car has had some work getting it right.. what makes the Ming and Sting products better than Toyota?
Tinting... you can get that done at a proper place. There are different grades of 3M film.

35% is the legal limit. Any darker and you could:
1) be knocked back for pink slips
2) be defected by the police
It's easily checked as all cop cars have a light meter. Whilst 35% isn't "that" dark, it's not too dark to trouble you at nights.
Btw, what 35% means is that 35% of light is transmitted from a light source on one side through the glass and tint to the other side. (I hope that clears it up).

australia is strict on its cars. Now they have a rule now in sydney that cops will target more p platers which i really gay.
Ive spoken to a friend of a friend of mine, his a cop and he said that prac moddin up a car is illigal (to an extent) have to keep it stocked. Even installing a new bodykit can fuck u up cuz the size of the bodykit may interfere with the drop of the car.
Btw the min height of the car should be a Coke Can. If a coke can, can sit under the bodykit its legal.
Like little things can fuck u over
>Upsizing anymore than 2" from your stocked tyres is illigal
>Smokin
>Dark Tinting
>Coloured Tinting
>Exhaust noise pollution
>Neons
>Interior Neons
>brightness of your lights
>Colour of your lights
>Brake lights isnt red, mind you cops should be aware of this cuz i see alot of idiots with non-red brake lights and it pisses me off. Its either their tail lights worn out the red for sum reason or their tail lights has been smashed. But seriously that pisses me off, i always think they are reversin.
little tiny mods can fuck u over big time.
Did u know in sydney (i dont know if other states have it) but its illigal to have charms hanging off the centre mirror. I find that fuckin stupid.

Eck.....that's gay ~ Nah.....QLD you can hang charms but I can guess why it's illegal ~ Research shows that it distracts the driver and causes 4% of crashes.....I think it's 4% ~

That research shows how stupid drivers are.
Anyway u wont get fucked over with 20% tints i believe. My mate has 10% tints for 4 years now and he has a skyline. I mean even if you go up to his windows and try to peek inside u cant cuz its that dark.
Now that is a car for targeting and gettin a fine for illigal tints. But he hasnt been fined with his 10% tints in sydney. And sydney police are bitches.
I remember when i got my brand new sexy yaris, i was pulled over the 3rd day i got it. Fuckin the asshole made me sit in the mud, (seriously my ass was full of mud.) I said to him "sir i aint sittin in no mud" and he acually had the nerve to say "i can charge you for talking back." Cops like them needs a bullet through their head. Power has got to them muthafuckers.
When they pulled me up, my license was sumwhere in one of the storage spaces in the yaris and from the cops point of view it looks like i was trying to hide some stash. When i was sitting in the mud, asshole said to me "im going to search your car for any illigal drugs" and im like "sure." He opened my glove box, he pulled out some pills in the silver packet thing....he came up to me and said to me "what are these pills?" and i was very annoyed at this cop i wanted to shoot him for 1. Being a fuckin dumbass, 2. pulling me up for no reason 3. for being a dumbass. I said to him "turn it over, it says panadol."
He wouldnt be sayin that shit if i was a blonde chick with DD Tits.

I have my car tinted, lowered, and with 17"s and it is legal here in WA
I also installed red interior neon kit AND multicolour one for the exterior
the stupid thing that I wasn't aware of is switching on your foglights is illigal
in my country, I've never switched them off
stay legal is my last suggestion

I did see a cop stopped behind a parked Dodge Viper with its under car neons turn on in Mt Gravatt...
Foglights are legal i heard if u can switch them off with a separate switch... but then never got into trouble when I'm cruising in my old man's Lexsus with fog lights on....

The rule is fog lights are only allowed to be turned on in weather-adverse conditions... so that means rain/fog.
I had mine on this morning but mind you I have no problems with them on at all except for a few cars. SS Dunnydore is one of them.

Eck.....that's gay ~ Nah.....QLD you can hang charms but I can guess why it's illegal ~ Research shows that it distracts the driver and causes 4% of crashes.....I think it's 4% ~
Though out of all those things.....I only plan to lower my car and it should still fit a coke can anyway ~
Yea.....35% VLT tint it shall be ~ To be on the safe side ~
Thanks for all suggestions guys ~

If I like her just coz she got 20' rims... I must be sad...:help:
Anyway just remember with 20's ur car will seriously be very slow getting off the line and in the long term causes excessive wear & tear on ur drivetrain... not to mention you will have a larger turning radius and other minor disadvantages...
Lastly... it will gonna dent ur wallet when comes tyre change...

in my opinion, if want something, go and get it
if you like it, that's what really matters
20" rims are cool but not for a daily use car
if I have another car to use I'll Pimp My Yaris
but for daily use, Speedz is right
jaspie,
don't care about what people say
think about what u want, period.
