Winter Gas

OMG! what has winter gas done to my car! my MPG is so bad now. i lost about 170km on the last tank of gas and about the same on the tank before. the extra idle time to warm the car up doesnt help but it shouldnt make that much of a difference.

does anyone know how to limit the effects on winter gas towards ur mpg? and what is it about winter gas that does this?

i was thinking about disconnecting my battery for a few mins and try to re teach the computer. would that help at all? i cannot do all winter with these shitty results.

Check your owner's manual... you don't need to let the car idle, just start her up, and don't drive too rough while the "Cool" engine temperature light is on.

That should save you some gas.

It's more than the gas. Gear and transmission oil takes time to warm up. If the weather is bad, traffic is worse.

i been driving aggressively lately im barely hitting 500 kms on 7 bars.. back to hypermiling and i think i can do 540kms on this cold weather condition with 7 bars = about 36 liters. but some does it a lot better..

Essentially, they add a gas line antifreeze (99% isopropl alcohol (sp?) perhaps) to the fuel. This is similar to the additive you can buy at gas bars, auto parts suppliers or for a one-tenth of the price at the pharmacy.
NOTE: Big Gas talks like they're doing you a favour by providing winter gas but I'm sure the increased fuel sold due to our decrease in fuel efficiency makes it a very profitable favour.

Yeah normally I get around 510km out of a tank but now I'm getting barely 450 ... more like 430. Sucks but that's what you get for living in a cold climate :P

When it is more dense, it has a higher 02 content.
A higher 02 content means the ECU meeters more fuel.

99% isopropl alcohol --- wouldn't that make the gasoline less basic?

Is there any way to reverse some of the effects of winter gas, by using some type of additive?
