Any chance your wife or girlfriend is in the passenger seat? That would cause some whining to appear.

Sounds like trouble. I'd take it in while on warranty.

This noise is like a high pitched whirring form about 30-45 mph then stops. Can't pinpoint where sound is emanating from. Seems like the back to rear of car. I'm gonna let my mechanic take the car for a spin see what he says. with dealer i have to keep it there all day and take off from work.
thanks for comments all

Have you put new tires on recently? Or are your tires going bad? There could be many options, but tires are possible, too.

it may be the faulty muffler bearing, toyota next recall!
just turn the radio volume up to 40 and the whirl will be less annoying

Flipper, yours sounds like a tire or balance issue.
Rep, does it make any difference what gear your in?

lol, k, good i thought it was a joke, lol. but u never know. lol. i could see a bearing on the rubber bushing to hold the muffler on very useful when it comes to absorbing vibrations

Tires have 30K on them. Stock tires i was thinking of that. there the goodyear's put on when car was bought. Only makes this noise when over 20 and under about 45. gear does not matter. Yes goes away with radio turned up :)

This whining, twisty, howling noise is coming from middle of the car from what I can hear. The noise increases with speed. does not exist at idle. Some days its very loud other days you can barely hear it.
any thoughts ??
because of work cant take it to dealer for a few weeks

does it sound like it could be wind noise? check all the plastic peices on the bottom of the bumper are in place and check the plastic peices around the top of the rad for damage or if they are loose

Does it change with how long the car is driven? If you go on a long, at least 15 min, highway trip is it the same noise before and after?
If it does vary with how long the car is driven it might be a wheel bearing, very unlikely but still possible.

Maybe your wife goes to sleep after you get going.

Sounds like you might have a tranny issue. I'd check the fluid levels. Also, have you tried going up to 60 MPH in 4th before shifting? Results?
Only other thing I can think of is something else going on in the drivetrain. If the sound is coming mostly from the rear, then it could just be a wheel bearing or something from the road jammed underneath the car flapping in the wind. Hard to tell.

Person at the shop says its wheel bearings. the noise now is at all speeds and drones louder as i go faster. wheel bearing shot at 31000? I thought Toyota made quality????
