Do you ever get the impression that dealers are a giant sucking ripoff?

Where have you been the last 60 or so years? lol. This isn't anything new. They put at least 40-60% markup on stuff.

If you mean factory parts then the markup is actually 100%. I have a friend who worked at Toyota's corporate office in Torrance. He could get me parts at dealer cost which was 50% of over-the-counter MSRP.

They are businesses with massive overhead that feel they can fleece their customers to increase their profits. There are better options out there, I only frequent the dealership when I know the item I want is reasonably priced (such as air filters). Otherwise, I avoid them at all possible costs...

You need to look at the forum you're posting in. This has nothing to do with the 3rd generation Yaris.

Car came into my shop last week that was towed from the dealership being diagnosed as a head gasket failure was going to cost the customer 3 grand. Engine was shaking check engine light was on. After performing a hydrocarbon test and finding out the head gasket was fine it turned out to be a defective ignition coil. Replaced it all was well and the customer walked out spending about 200 bucks.

Needless to say he got the impression dealership was trying to rip him off as well.

You are a good person! Bravo. Others would have taken advantage of the situation and stuck it to this car's owner. Well done! :w00t::w00t::w00t:

There's a reason we have many sub-forums for various topics. This order maintains a much more enjoyable environment for browsing. It isn't a big deal to post in the wrong forum by accident, it was just a suggestion for your next post. If you'd like, you can wait for a moderator to say the same thing.

The bigger issue is that you haven't even completed your thought. Why do dealers suck?
Is it because they desire to stay in business?

Well I have 3rd generation Yaris....I would contend that my comments are directly related to my Yaris....thus this forum would be the appropriate forum.

Its all a matter of perspective.....your is that it isn't, and mine that it is.

In this postmodern world....we are both right.

As for why they treat customers so bad....it is to stay in business, but they will only get to treat a customer bad once...or twice if they are of limited mental facility.

140-260% markup more like it....our 'matrix' pricing on stuff is through the roof.

check this out, a simple watch battery that costs about 2 bux a walmart is 23 dollars at bmw. oh yeah, and if you get the 'discount price' it's 6 bucks....still 300% profit. makes me sick. every chance i get i tell cutomers what to do and where to go for better prices.
