Hello Gentlemen sorry to bother u but i had a few questions to ask i want to install a push button on my yaris and i have a pivot push start button its relay box has four wires

1 x wire (black) for earth to attch to car body
1 X wire (red) also called terminal 15
2 x wires (blue) one called terminal 15 ign (ignition) & other terminal 50

Now i am typing the exact words on the manual

1.The green wire should be connected to terminal 15ign (ignition) behind the ignition switch, with another wire connecting Terminal 50 behind the iginition switch as well.(The power path from ign to starting motor)
2. The red wire should be connected to Terminal 15.(The power path that passes through ign)

The terminal 15 and 50 don't mean anything to me, but for a push-start switch to start the car, it simple needs to have the ignition in the on position and then jump the pink and black wires.

From the directions I think they are saying that the red and one blue goes to the pink and the other blue goes to the black.

So wht ur saying is that the 1 blue and 1 red has to be connected 2 the pink wire?

Can you scan and post the wiring diagram that came with it? On Pivot's website, the wire colors that they show in their install guide are completely different (white, yellow, red and black). They mention that their are many counterfeit versions of their products, so I have a feeling that yours might be just that.

Not to threadjack with shameless self promotion, but I developed a Push to Start inteface module that uses the OEM Toyota Push to Start Switch thanks to some interest over on the MI forum. For RHD Yaris, only the module and a Toyota PTS switch is needed. For LHD ones, a replacement trim piece is needed to neatly mount the switch (of which I imported a bunch from Europe).

That is so weird that it does not indicate colors (nor match the colors from the pivot manual).

Can the "relay box" cover be removed to reveal the mysteries within?

*ahem* Sir i already have it fixed inside perhaps i could open it but dont u think it would be a bit risky

It does look like a sealed case, so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to try to open it. Based on the wire colors and positions, as long as the red wire is connected to the pink wire on the key switch connector, the unit will receive power when the ignition switch is in the on position and the light should come on.

You might want to try emailing Pivot to see what they say.

Hmm both the red and blue wire is connected 2 the pink one, perhaps if i try connecting the other blue wire to a different black wire. But thank u anyways atleast its working and shows a little light when i push it

I think the blues are fine, as to crank the starter you need to jump power to the black wires, and having one on pink and the other on the black wires does that.

The only problem is that it is not illuminating i just mailed pivot lets see i will keep you posted if you dont mind sir

Cars have been started with keys since just after WWII (OK, not sure about that) for a reason. The only cars I ever had with start buttons had them because I bypassed bad wiring or key switches. I really don't get why start buttons are all the rage right now- they seem pre-tailfin to me.

hey scott is there a way to start the car with the push start and not have to have the key at all like a switch you can hide and flip when you wanna hit the pts butten

You would have to remove the lock cylinder to get rid of the steering column lock. That eliminates a level of security for theft of your car, but if your 09 has the engine immobilizer, you would still need to wave the key by the receiver (the black rings around the key switch) to allow the car to start.

Actually, thinking about it a bit more, with a basic momentary switch, all you can do it crank the starter. You still need something else (the key, another switch, etc.) to turn the engine on/off and to have things like ACC mode. The OEM PTS and some of the aftermarket ones have logic behind the switch that allows for the different modes (push once for ACC, again for ON, a third time to start, then hold for 3 seconds to kill).

CTScott, do you think it would be possible to use the PTS system from a Lexus, that uses no keys at all, just sensors? Or is that a function that is limited by the ECU?

The OEM PTS system uses a different ECM, so even using an OEM Yaris/Vitz one from an area where that feature is available is impractical.

There is a complete aftermarket system that has been discussed on MI:

hey scott I see that you said you made a pts setup how does your work I don't have a chip in the key and don't have power but I really don't wanna use the key other then to unlock the doors I wanna have mine set like a rally car flip a switch and then hit the button to start the car no keys

My module lets you use an OEM PTS switch and allows you to start and kill the engine.

For what you are looking to do, you would basically be replacing the keyswitch with your flip switch and then could use my module, or just a simple momentary switch for cranking the starter. The one downside to what you are thinking of doing is that without the key/steering column lock or the engine immobilizer it would be very easy for someone to steal your car.

Yes. To unlock the steering column.

At this point not really. If I get around to adding the RFID interface to it, then that will completely take the place of the key.
