I got these as a gift for christmas from CARiD.com. On their website, they have an option to add HID's, which I also got (10000K). But there is a label on the headlights that say HID bulb not allowed. Anyone know if it is safe?

Thanks.

This is what I think, the material they used to make the housing is not "strong" enough to handle the heat from the HID bulbs (it'll melt).

i ran HID's in mine for 8 months (all summer) without ANY issues.

mine had the same sticker on it too. i said f*ck it, if it melts, ill go back to stock.

don't forget you want an H1 kit for your lows...

Thanks for the replies. I will give them a call and see what they say.

lol, they're going to tell you exactly what that sticker says....

im TELLING you that i've run HID's in the low beams for MONTHS without issue.

what they're likely worried about is the housing overheating and melting since hid's run hotter than a halogen...

but i had ZERO issues with mine...

Yours does look a little different than mine that is why I am not sure I want to risk it, most likely, but not 100%.

Thanks.

But yeah, a lot of people are using those (or thebarber's) headlights with HIDs. Just give it a try.

Yeah I will give it a try and like thebarber said, if it does give me a problem, I will just go back to stock. Thanks everyone for the help.

Why'd you go with 10k may I ask?

im assuming he doesnt know any better (as 4300k give better illumination)

or for him form > function

6k gives out a nice clean light and still puts out a great light output.

Saggio ran HID's in his projectors with no issues as well.

isnt hid runs cooler since its 35w vs halogen on 55w.

The will be fine 35w vs 55w plus the ballast is the part that gets the hottest

It's the bulbs

I have been doing a bit of research and probably gonna hold off on the HID's for now. Just ues the original bulbs.

If I wanted to put in some 6k bulbs, do I need to get a new ballast aswell? or can I just use the ballast from the 10k and just replace the bulbs to 6k?

Thanks for the info! (and possibly saving me from getting a ticket!!!)

Well HIDs themselves arent' a ticket, if they're done right most cops won't pull you over since they aren't bothering people. TECHNICALLY they would be illegal, but whether or not they choose to ticket you is at their discretion at that point.

And from having purple headlights... And no one wants that. Even 6k is a bit too blue for some people. Best light output will be 4300-5000k. Anything over is wasted on the human eye.

4300K is the closest to natural white sunlight. Anything higher is bluer, and 10K is downright purple and will result in less actual illumination and more attention from a cop with an itchy ticket pad. Good on you to not use them, because they are quite annoying, especially in housings not designed for HID purposes.

bulbs are interchangeable with ballasts

ive been running the same ballasts in my yaris for about a year and a half....ive run h4 bixenons, h1's in my depot headlights, and now a projector retrofit...
