My daughter has a 2007 Yaris and she called and said the car makes a squeak/squeal when she backs up and turns the steering wheel. Any ideas before I send her to the dealer?

Well if the noise is coming from the rear I'll say its the brake bands. Whens the last time that was changed. Our steering is electric so IDK

Could be the cable rubbing on the whatsit. It would make the noise upon engaging reverse in that case.

That noise is a distinct rattle and could not possibly be described as a squeak/squeal.

I said "COULD BE". We are dealing with the description of a noise here which could have many interpretations. I would urge the person having this problem to eliminate this as a possibility. Preferably BEFORE involving a dealer whose actions are not infrequently less than honorable with a car possibly out of warranty.
