I have just bought a second hand Japan imported Toyota Vitz (Yaris) 1.0 L with a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The owner's manual is in Japanese and I can't understand anything. According to the maintenance schedule guide which i downloaded from the internet, the service interval is 6 months or 5,000 miles whilst the Toyota agent is Malta recommends that the service interval is 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. Can anyone tell me which is the correct service interval ?? Thks guys

looking at those numbers I would think oil change with synthetic oil. My yaris is every 8000km or 6 months (conventional oil). The dealership said if I switch to synthetic oil then it would be every 10,000 km or 8 months.

I don't know what motor oil costs in Malta, but you've got two reasonable choices: 6 months/5,000 mile with cheaper conventional oil or 12 month/10,000 miles with a more expensive synthetic. Either one should work, do what's cheapest or more convenient.

Of course, I have no idea what grade of oil they spec for that engine in Europe. For example, a 0W20 is only available as a synthetic.
