Are they for looks or do they actually help with cornering... i always imagined the firewall was pretty solid... but i see lots of people have them. i don't like to drive fast but i like to be quick and I'm on mountain highways its hard to go 60 but 45 on hairpin corners are fun.

Some may argue they don't do anything (although they haven't tried it personally on a yaris). For me it was the first suspension/body stiffening mod I did. In town, noticed no difference. Highways, and those sweet curvy roads I did notice an improvement in handling. I've had my tanabe front strut bar for almost 5 years now. As a comparison I also have a stock '09 and I can really tell the difference in handling. Some other mods to consider as well are the GT spec rear lower strut brace (the upper one doesn't do anything honestly, I had one although NOT from GT Spec), stiffer lowering springs/coilovers, and of course a rear sway bar. You'll notice more of a benefit of the rear sway, but I'm really, really happy with my suspension upgrades.

Sprint Performance lowering springs
TRD sway bar
GT Spec rear lower strut/link bar.

Definitely, rear anti-sway bar.

The rear sway bar has a much larger effect on cornering stability; I know it's an inexpensive car, but it's amazing they didn't include one.

I have tested the front strut brace, on and off during the same session, at the track. It definitely makes a difference, but only under extreme cornering conditions.

Bracing mods are cumulative, like horsepower. You might not feel one mod, but you can feel the combined effects of several.

In a few weeks, looks like I'm getting a sway bar.

I use a front strut bar on my xB but decided to not use one on the Yaris. I did however go with the rear Ultra Racing 19mm bar that Garm sells. Can't wait to get it on and try it out.
