Don't waist you $$$ unless you autocross with your car.
yes they works and give you more control over the powercurve of the car but actual power gains are small and it's notsomething that would be very useful for everyday driving and fuel economy.

I agree. You wont enjoy the ride comfort after.

i'd say teh e-manage would be more useful.
apparantly the ECU just ovverised the camcon.

There is a thread on the scion forums where a guys spends several thousand dollars to find 27hp. That was one of the parts he tried. It did not offer any improvements at all.

PRICE SEEMS PRETTY NICE...
BUT WILL IT MAKE A 1ZZ-FE hit 160hp with the CAI?
IF IT DOES I'LL BUY IT RIGHT AWAY... HOW MUCH IS THE E-MANAGE ANYWAY?

That unit has absolutely NOTHING to do with ride comfort. :laughabove:
If you want a fast car, sell your Yaris and buy one! :respekt:

All that thing does is changes the Timing of your car... at BEST you might get 2HP... but besides power it improves the Torque/HP curve... It will make for smoother power band, that's about it... I still don't know enough about timing to guess what it would do to the Yaris... Would I have to put in Premium gas? That kind of stuff...

The only thing the CAMCON can do on a Toyota engine is advance or retard the timing of a VVT-i or VVTL-i engine, on the 1NZ-FE, you aren't going to see any benefits whatsoever to just indiscriminately applying one of these units... now, if you have some sort of forced induction or other highly modified setup, and you need to be able to change your timing, this is the box for you. As for the e-Manage, I've heard that most modern ECU's will fight the e-manage tooth and nail and that the only time they are really effective is at WOT, the worst offenders of this are Toyota and Nissan's "smart" or "learning" ECUs.... as for the E-manage ultimate, I've heard it's not even worth the money, headaches all around when trying to use it with a modern ECU. What would be ideal is a complete replacement ECU, like Apex'i's PowerFC, or a way to tune the factory ECU, I'd say we may have to wait a while yet to see any applications of this sort start to appear.

yea, tuning the factory ECU seems to be the way to go... just need a way to do it.
until then, it looks like standalone.

what exactly is the hp and torque goal by trying putting a stand alone setup. you can't just change the brain and expect great things to come from it. with this motor you might be lucky to get few horse out of it. so thats what 1300 bucks to get few horse. thats kinda point less i think.

Yes, but for those that plan to go SC or turbo wit a bit more agressive boost...well, something is needed to fine tune settings, the factory ECU alone with stock programming just isn't going to cut it. And those that will go with all motor setups may want to change parts of the program to optimize timings and air/fuel for say... different compressions, different cams, etc. You're not likely to see gains from JUST an ECU on these cars, the point is, to fine tune and optimize for your other modifications

Thats a good question, I'm not sure anyone really knows right now, I beleive the Blitz SC bumps it up to 148hp/149ft-lbs but as for what the block can take without internal upgrades, afraid I don't have the answer there.

I would say 135hp!
