I've never had that issue. You might check that nothing is dislodged/broken in the area of the hinges. Compare the left and right sides for differences. One spring rod may be disconnected or damaged.

I already checked all of that there's nothing broken or disconnected

Did you by any chance soundproofed it? Adding weight to the trunk lid (ie. dynomat, etc) will cause this.

You may need to add/replace the Hydrolic (sp?) supports on either side of the trunk.

The sedan uses torsion bars, rather than gas shocks. They are #12 and #13 in the diagram below. They may be too fatigued to support the trunk.

What about adding a spring between 13 and 14? Adding more torsion.

The trunk lid blows down in a breeze on my sedan. It ALWAYS catches me by surprise and is a painful reminder. I would have been happier with gas struts, but that ain't how they built it. The trunk lid is very flimsy, and I ain't sure that it would stand up to struts.

Not many flaws in the Yaris sedan, but that is one of them...

@TLyttle Yep yep that's true i always get reminded by the trunk that it doesn't stay up because it hit's me everytime

I had taken the spoiler off my EVO (to avoid all the silly stop light challenges) and every time I popped the trunk, it would launch up. That's why either there is extra weight on the trunk, or the tension bars are binding, or they are no longer correctly in place. Good luck.

I agree as torsion bars rarely go bad particularly in this type of application although, it is a pssibility.

same problem here. thought it was just one of the quirks of the vios/yaris. it would be nice to find a solution to this problem.

Ahem, all, may I please direct your attention to the Yaris TSBs thread (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9753) where I discovered this little gem (http://www.etimago.com/yaris/TSB/T-SB-0026-08%20%28Trunk%20Lid%20Full%20Open%20Position%20Imp rovement%29.pdf) well after my warranty expired.

To sum it up ... Toyota has known about this issue for a while without telling anyone and we all have bumps on our heads because of it.

I sorta got the same thing on my hatchback, after this winter the trunk does not open on its own I have to push it up. Any Cheap Ideas on what I could do?

The no spoiler one would provide less tension than the spoiler one. If you read the TSB linked above, supposedly there are newer ones which provide more resistance than the original ones.

So what should i do now purchase the one that says with spoiler ?

That might help, but based on what others are saying above, it sounds like the trunk really needs something to be added to assist the torsion bars.

So what do you propose i do then ?

For all of those that have the same problem that i had with my trunk i think i found a solution to it but it's a 2 man job

I recently purchase a new set of torsion bar to replace the ones that i had on and when i change them the results were even worse that the ones that was on already so here's what i did

You're going to need to lap the torsion bar twice around each other instead of the one that u usually do when you replace it ,

Then you're going to have to try n put it back in in place that's the hard part and there you're going to need someone to hold the trunk up for you while you fight with the torsion bar

At first it's going to seem impossible but it's possible i'm going to post some pictures so that you can see what i'm talking about
