Rattling noise when stopped

If I am driving then come to a stop and stay in drive, my engine will begin to rattle. In reverse I still hear the noise. If I switch to neutral the noise is reduced dramatically. If I put it in park the noise goes away completely. I would appreciate any help.

Also, I just bought the car(07Yaris) used. Is there a way to know if scheduled maintenance was done on the car?
