View Full Version : In dash speakers?

I did some searches and couldn't find any posts about installing speakers in the dash. Anyone done this? Anyone recommend this? Say, like, 2 or 3 inch speakers up in the dash on both sides and/or center? Our VW Routan has three small speakers in the dash near the windshield, and I was wondering what this might do for my Yaris.
Thanks once again in advance for all the wonderful insight on this board!

One COULD do this BUT...
The thing is, the dash pad is solid and the AC/heater vents are attached to the dash pad. I looked at it myself last year and took off the pad and decided against modding the piece.
Cars like the Solara and the Camry have OEM in dash locations. We don't.

To be honest I will not drill some holes in the dash, since it will be very difficult to do, and you might have problems with the sun later on, that could do some damage to it.
Yes they do look nice, and is the best location for sound distribution, but if not stock, do something else, I did install some tewters in the A pilars, and it give me lot better sound image, insted of having them on the door panels, since they would be to low.

I put my tweeter components on top of the door panels, with the other components still down in the door. Sounds great!

I was considering tweets in the A pillars, where is the best place to run and connect the wires to?

Uh...ya...
I was asking if they should run down to the wires for the door speakers, or should they run all the way to HU, etc...

Depends on the setup, I think. I ran wires from the A-pillar tweeters all the way down to the crossovers under the seat (I put the crossovers on top of the amplifier).

There is a little bit of sarcasm with that first statement if you couldn't read into the tone. :)
There is PLENTY of room under the dash to house passive crossovers. I guarantee it.

Cool SQ, as usual ;)
So, where do the tweeter wires hook up at? All the way to the HU? All the way to the amp? Spliced in at the door speakers?

They are run from the amplifiers:

Like Derick's source, mine is a tuner and not powered.

I think Nodrog just wants to plug tweeters directly from the speakers with out any X over or amp, I don't think of any substantial sound improvement going that way. (please correct me if I'm wrong)
I remember many years ago, I did it and you can try it but you would probably find out it's not worth going that way.
Get an inexpensive powered subwoofer box and you will get a big smile improving your sound system.

Is the little black box the crossover?

Is the little black box the crossover?
Yes, it's a passive x-over to protect the tweeter.
I just read the other thread you have about your system, that you already have an amp and new speakers.

I don't want to hijack the thread...
Very much like derick's efforts, fiberglass is king.

Yes, and I was considering adding tweets and was wondering the best place to run the tweets wires to, thus the reason for this thread....
