Nurburgring website

Thought some folks might enjoy this website. Some guy has documented his (many) visits to the Nurburgring over the past several years. An interesting peek into how European gearheads can enjoy their cars.

I'm so jealous of the Euros in this regard. To be able to just buy a ticket and drive whatever you've got on a course like that! Be sure to check out the webcam (not that exciting, but still a live peek at the other side of the world) and the pictures from past visits.

Cool idea. You used to be able to do something like that with motorcycles, at places like Nelson Ledges (Ohio), and Shannonville (Ontario). You had to have a racing license (easy to get), and your bike had to pass tech inspection for safety issues. There were rules of course to prevent too many bkes on the track at the same time, or bikes with too big a speed differential from being on together, and there was always an ambulance in attendance. I thought they might have done it with cars too, but I don't really know.

yea, the nurburgring has no real rules. Not to mention no ambulance. Lucky germans haven't had stupid lawyer disease yet.

Right. No abulance, but I guess there is an emergancy number! :-D On the rules they do have they are über strict (that's a bit of Nürburgring humor for you folks). For instance, all cars must be under 95 db or else you can't race. I guess people that have driven from other countries have been turned away because of the deicbal ratings.

Actually, from what I read on that guy's website, the 'Ring has terrific services. Cops are apparently very quick to respond when needed, and there are loads of course workers stationed all other the track. The course has rapid-response vehicles on-site, including ambulances and tow-trucks.

Again, according to the guy's website, penalties are VERY harsh for wiping-out on the track and then leaving the scene. Puddles of oil/coolant from such mishaps have caused fatalities in the past, so the fines/penalties are brutal for those who violate the rules.
