View Full Version : Bringing a Japanese RS to Canada!

Hello everyone.

I was wondering if any of you guys know the process that i need to take to bring a 1.8 RS to canada. I live in the UK, but I bought my RS through Toyota of Italy, so the car is left hand drive and also in KM already. But im not sure how the rules go for there. Do any of you know if it is a pain to bring it in and register the car there? :iono:

unless whatever company you're working for is paying for the move, forget trying to move the car.....its going to be expensive to ship it, and a pain to register.

but if you've got the money, i don't think you'd have trouble since its LHD already....as long as it still has catalytic converters on it...

or just sell it and buy a scion xd....pretty much teh same thing....

btw, where in canada are you moving?

Years ago when friends returned from Germany with their cars they required changing glass due to needing safety glass installed. Not sure if this will be a problem for you.
Not sure if parts may also be hard to find for the 1.8 in Canada.

Im moving to the toronto area. not sure where yet. I got the shipping covered really. What i am worried is the expense of registering the car there.

Well well well! this is promising! Thank you very much for the site! so there is no problem according to the site to bring it to canada, now i got to meet the safety standard. I would think that the Vitz TS has more safety features than the one build for the US and Canada. But I will have to find out really. The biggest thing apparently is the emissions, which i thought they were stronger here, but yeah. Also the bumpers, but i swear both cars look the same except the actual design of the bumper itself, but time will tell. thank you again.:w00t:

Well, a yaris is a yaris really! Is also my understanding that the 1.8 dual VVT-i is the same as in the american corolla! and the scion xd. correct m if im wrong? i would not think a toyota dealer would have many problems taking care of the RS. but thanks for the point!

Vehicles manufactured for sale in countries other than Canada and the United States do not comply with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act, CANNOT be altered to comply and CANNOT be imported into Canada. The only exceptions to this rule are vehicles fifteen (15) years old or older as determined by the month and year in which the vehicle was manufactured and buses manufactured before January 1, 1971.

from my reading there are exceptions to the rule....

There are exceptions. Since you're not a Canadian citizen if you're coming over for work/school you're able to bring your vehicle. I had a friend with a R33 Skyline here since the mid/late 1990's. I can't recall the exact process you have to go though but it does exist.

Yes, that was the way i understood. thanks for the post. From the web site given by MUSKOKA800, I have to talk to two different agencies and they will be able to tell me the process and what they need from me to register the car there.
