Size(s) being equal, alloy wheels are usually lighter. Even if they weigh about the same, which is unlikely (if not impossible), steel wheels will need wheel caps and that will mean additional weight:smile:.
However, sometimes alloy wheels are married to wider/higher grade tires, then it will be harder to call as far as overall weight is concerned.

My 15" steel wheel and tires weighed in at 33lbs. The stock toyota alloy wheel is 0.5" wider, but should still be at least 3-6lbs. lighter than the steel wheel. Tire weight will not be changed much.
