Hello Everyone,

I changed my belt about 600 miles ago. I made sure it was tight and after about 30 miles i hit it with a little belt dressing. Everything has been fine but on two occasions when it was cold. The car started and squealed for a few seconds then it would stop. I looked at the belt and it looks like your average belt, a little bit of a sheen on the top. When I changed the belt the deflection in the center was probably a half inch. The deflection appears to be about te same. Could it be the weather? It happened only twice now but made the car seem ghetto. I rechecked the deflection and its a tad over 1/2" in the middle. The deflection really hasn't changed from what i remember. Anyone have idea what it is or should I just go and re tighten everything.

The squeel was only 2 seconds, not rev dependent and it happened 1-2seconds after start up.

It's just the cold.

Its a bando belt that I put on, so its not a crap belt.

could be due to the cold and maybe one of ur pullies being stiff. check again and makesure its tight enough.

I had the same issue when the weather here got below freezing. Would squeal momentarily every time I started it up. Now that things have warmed up again everything is fine. I took it by the Toyota dealer in town just to have everything double checked and they agreed with me that it was just the cold and that there was nothing to worry about.

Plenty cold here and mine, the OEM original at ~88,000 kilometers, has never made a peep although the valve-train is ticking a bit on cold starts lately. Likely needs a maintenance adjustment.

There's nothing to adjust in the valve train... well there is, but nothing you NEED to adjust. It's normal. Just keep changing the oil like normal and you'll get a lifetime out of it.

belt will squeal if too loose OR too tight... adjust it slightly in both directions, first loosen it a bit, then tighten it a bit after that if it doesn't get better.

on my Jeep I manually adjust it and 2 winters ago I had it too tight and it would squeal like crazy in the morning, I just loosened it up a tad and it hasn't made ANY noise. also, don't use that belt dressing stuff, its garbage, thats meant to help extend belts life that are way past their prime and should be replaced anyway
