hi guys, my 07 hb has about 38,500 miles on it and i need to find new tires. so, i was searching around here, but all i want is a decent tire that replaces the original equipment ones that need replacing. don't want the same ones, bridgestone potenzas, as i don't think they are very good on snow or in rain. please help out a middle aged old woman who just wants a decent tire. thanks

nitto 555r, firestone firehawks, yokohama parada,
kidding, those are extreme high performance. any way, i just got a set of falken zeix 512's on mine a few days ago, not much of a review but they're extremely quiet, and people talk around here that the 512's last a long time. they're 380 treadwear with an a traction and temp range.
any way, so far they're much better than the factory bridgestones. they were noisey, they were dry-rotted at 35k miles.
any way, if you want more of a selection of a tire then step to a 195/60/15. they're cheaper, wider selection, and you can step out of the 'eco friendly' section.

If you intend on keeping the same tire on all year (a "true" all season tire), go with the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. They are reasonably priced, have excellent wet/dry grip and have the sipes for snow/ice. They are not an extreme sports/handling tire as their sidewalls are a bit soft. On the up side, they drive relatively smooth on the road and have very good tread wear so you won't be replacing them after a couple of seasons. They are a good compromise for more expensive Michelins but won't break your bank.

+2 for hankook h727.
This tire is excellent on snow, ice and rain. Quiet and directionally stable. It's a luxury tire for a bargain. Do not settle for any other.
Pep boys may still have 4 for 3, about $350 out the door, installed with warranty. Cannot be beat.

The best bang for the buck in stock size is the Hankook Optimo H727.
The Michelin Harmony is top dog but pricey.
The Yokohama AVID TRZ and the AVID Touring-S are also respectable options.

Continental Pro Contact with Eco Plus technology , can be bought for less than $90 each . Just picked up 4 , plan to get them installed soon as the weather gets better . Cooper Cs-4s' are good all weather tire under $90 each too . Is hard to make a decision . Was told by a few tire stores that tires are due for another price increase .

BTW, Discounttiredirect has the Hankook H727 for just $74 each... plus you'll get a $40 rebate when you buy 4 tires. That's just $256 delivered to your door. Should be able to find a shop to install and balance for about $40.

just got off the phone with pepboys-hankkok optimo is still buy 3 get the 4th freewith rebate-price is $91 per tire plus all of the add ons. total came to $519.94 then you get the rebate of $91 back on a prepaid visa card. cost would be $429. the guy told me we have tpms which jacks up the cost-wonderful
checked discount tire, they have the yokohoma avid trz total out the door for 4 installed with tax is $468
went online and saw the hankook's for $300 for 4-$40 shipping $40 rebate, plus install which seems to be the biggest bump up of the prices.
i think these prices are crazy

just checked discount tire direct, you are right on the price-if i take them to discount tire it says $20 install each tire plus $5 each tire for the tpms fee. free shipping-i think the tpms kit was $3 for each tire thru them online
total price shipped was $308 plus the $100 to install them at discount tire, plus tax there so my total would be appr. $408 plus the hassle of bringing the tires to them.
pp boys would be $20 more after their rebate

Are these for your 2007 Yaris? Does it have TPMS? Mine doesn't.
Find someone to install your tires for a lot less.

yep, 07 yaris-guy at pepboys said it has tpms, i am not sure. i also forgot to add for tire disposal fees at discount tires-
have no idea how to find someone cheaper to install, sorry.

Here's an article from C.R. on the CONTINENTAL Pro Contact Eco Plus tires . http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/tires-auto-parts/tires/all-season-tire-ratings/models/overview/continental-procontact-ecoplus-99032528.htm .
costco often alternates between michelin and bridgestone coupons. march was bridgestone, the next one might be for michelin. the $70 off basically negates the install fee

I would check back with pep boys, the guy must have made a mistake, or you live in an expensive area! I also paid 76 per tire, but installation was like $10 per tire including the warranty. Maybe you have to sign up for their free rewards program (I did, and received additional $50 gift card on top of $76 prepaid visa). I paid just over $400 up front for h727.

yep, expensive here in the chicago burbs i guess. got another quote from midas and it was appr. $550 for goodyears. seems like a lot of money for tires for this car-maybe i'll check the sunday papers and see if anything is a decent deal. but, i need tires pretty soon. thanks for everyones help and i sure don't think i have tpms on my yaris.

a good bet would be yokohama avid touring-s in this size. good tire for the money. At my work (ford/toyota dealership) I'd quote you retail 76 a tire for these (plus yokohama has a 100 rebate right now).
I'm back and forth on Hankook, we've seen a few quality issues with them on fords (ford uses hankook extensively for oem fitments).

Take a road trip up to Madison. I'm looking into pricing on having them mounted/balanced soon myself. I'll keep you posted on what I find up here. Might be worth the few hour drive.

falken 912
I like mine, but after about 20,000 miles (only 2-3 autocrosses, and a few hotlaps around PIR), I'm at 2/32 of tread. Treadware was not great.
