Who needs a hybrid?

Good job, Tonavi.
I had a personal best my last tank full, as well---37.44mpg. I only have about 2,500 miles on my Yaris, so hopefully I can improve as time goes on. My Ecometer helped me reach new FE highs, as well.....

i wouldn't go by the gauge

do fill up math, xxx miles divded by x.xx gallons to fill up

i had that gauge in my Scion it would always tell me i was getting mid to upper 40s when i was really barely getting mid 30s

That's why I always do the math and calibrate the SGII. Go to More >> Fillup and update your values. The SGII is about 8-10% off right out of the box. Doing the math and updating the values keeps it accurate.

My SGII MPG readings are so variable, depending on TSP, LOD, etc, which are dependent on road slope and even wind direction. But I live in rolling hills and mountains so there is no straight and level to be had.

I stopped using that feature and do manual calc's.

I leave mine on FIA, MPG, AVG, and FWT for my four gauge options.

i don't even use a SGII anymore. i couldn't find a spot that i like to put it in the yaris, so i didn't install it. i had it in my scion, so i already know how to drive this motor

my last tank was 49.4, the tank before 50.6...i think i'm doing ok ;)

AWESOME on the 50! I can get 45 with some hard effort, but never 50. What does it take to get that? :w00t:

Did a test a few months back and My wife was able to pull 41.6 MPG. She is a great driver and you can not tell when she is pulling the hyper mile techniques.

Hypermiling is my daily driving style. No matter what I'm driving I maximize coasting, accelerate easily, stick to the speed limits, etc.

My personal best has been 41.3 with 10% moonshine gas. I am tempted to buy a tank of ethanol free premium that is sold on the Reservation near me to see if I can get >45mpg.

The caveat is that the booze free gas cost $4.23/gal.

What type of driving do you normally do (hw, city, back roads?). I would assume that the type of driving you do would affect how well hypermiling works. If you are basically always on the highway then the best you can do is simply go slow. You can't really practice some other hypermiling methods.

$4.23 is cheap!

no kidding!! I just filled up at $1.273/L this evening. According to Google (http://www.google.ca/search?q=1.273+CAD+per+Litre&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&pq=1.273%20usd%20per%20gallon%20in%20usd%20per%20g allon&xhr=t&q=1.273%20CAD%20per%20litre%20in%20USD%20per%20gal lon&cp=19&pf=p&sclient=psy&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=v0Z&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&source=hp&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=1.273+CAD+per+litre+in+USD+per+gallon&pbx=1&fp=4d592cfd59236879) as I write this, that's just over $5 USD per gallon.
As far as I know it isn't possible to get ethanol free gas in the Great White North either. 10% blend 87 octane in my tank.

$4.23 is cheap!

It is $0.40 more than I would pay for regular, so it is all relative.

That's how much I paid for regular unleaded yesterday...

I guess I wont bitch too much about the 3.57 I just paid yesterday ( and then another .15 cents off with pricechopper/Quick trip discount, so 3.42)

I did put in a tank of ethanol free premium yesterday. It was $4.13/gallon. If I get significantly better mileage, >5mpg, then I may start using that in spite of the higher price.

Shell Canada sells Ethanol-free gas in their 91 octane for 149.9
Do the math, either way you're being screwed by Ethanol or Premium.

Tonavi,
What sort of speeds did you have to drive at to get that mileage? Was it city driving or were you able to get that on the highway?

Did anyone notice a mileage increase or decrease after break in? My personal best if my first and only tank so far at 44.6 mpg. That is with i guess E10 gasoline in PA.

Recently purchased 2007 base sedan. I can get mid 40's mpg city/hwy combined and just got 56 mpg on the last tank with 100% highway driving.

Got so many great tips from this forum for hypermiling. I am not an extremist, but just follow basic techniques. I keep up with traffic for the most part, unless driving up steep inclines. Gotta slow down for those or watch the mpg go down the drain.

With some practice, I hope to average 50 mpg overall. Almost there!

56 mpg? You've got to be kidding. The best I've gotten thus far is 37.44mpg with a LB auto. I could kick myself in the head for not getting the manual, but oh well. Live and learn. I still don't understand how you guys get these types of efficiency readings....

Lots of good tips out there to assist with improving MPG.

Gassavers.org has a tab with "201 Tips to Save Gas" with many helpful hints.

Driving is not the leisure activity it once was for me. It does require some concentration to always be thinking ahead of the terrain, traffic conditions, etc.

Scangauge or similar FE monitoring device is a must, IMO. It has made me very aware of my mpg performance in real time. One can catch on real quick with what to avoid and what to repeat with respect to driving habits.

Most of all, I make it a game. Always a good feeling to set a new MPG record on my daily commute.
