Aftermarket windshield

Anyone here using an aftermarket windshield? Mine has a cracked on it and I am looking to replace it with either a cheaper windshield or the original toyota windshield about $200 difference, is it worth it?

It was my toyota dealership told me that they can offer me aftermarket windshield cuz they hire another guy to do the glass. Since you live in canada too, the aftermarket i got offered for $399+tax including labour and $599+tax for the toyota including labour

the only difference would be the appearence. same quality (both have to meet the standard safety features)

my dad got his windshield replaced on his ML450 with an aftermarket and he wasnt happy with the way the black tint edge went around and just the appearence of it compared to stock. his stock windshield is a little more elaborate then our little yaris so id say go with the aftermarket as long as they will still promise a seamless result

Sometimes the "aftermarket" windshields use a softer glass that pits a lot easier then the OEM compound. Some insurance offers windshield replacement, might want to look into that?

Sometimes the aftermarket glass can be thinner. This was a problem on the earlier 2004 Mini Coopers. The stock glass was actually thinner than the aftermarket versions!
Stock thinner glass would crack due to the shape and angle of the windshield...

my dad got his done thru insurance and they would not pay for OEM glass saying the car was already 5 years old and there was no point in putting in OEM glass

i paid $150 at a glass pro, and it turned out the windshield they put in looked the EXACT same, brow and all.

I was very surprised original windshield is not very durable.
I was cleaning it from the ice and scraped with a scraper. Now it has all the scarring

Aftermarket is fine, I've never replaced a windshield with OEM. If the crack is shorter than the width of a (US) dollar(or is it length?) it can probably be repaired for free under your insurance...at least that's how it is here.

i used turtle wax on a big portion of my rear window (was bored and got wax on it by accident so continued to wax it) and it made a huge difference. the water beads on it like crazy and the rear wiper cleans wonders in the area and i have never seen the rear window so clear. next time i have the wax out i will definatly do the entire rear window.

i would be a little reserved to do it on the front window just incase it shows marks at night or some how restricts my view (front window has plastic layers on both sides and i know polish and wax dont do well with plastic)

i have a ppg front window i think the black around the outer edge is not as wide as oem window very little difference but i felt it coverd less of the out outer edge i like the brack surrounding other than that i felt they were the same i would request the factory seal the window uses i supplied it from toyota myself so the window installer did not use some shit after market seal if you really want to call it a seal more like a little rubber channel
