View Full Version : If my Yaris doesn't have A/C why is there a button for it?

I just bought a used 2007 Yaris last week. The original ad didn't mention air conditioning but on my first inspection I noticed there was an A/C button on the console. It lights up when I press it, but there is no cold air. I asked the seller and he said there was never any A/C. Is this just a quirk in design, or was the original A/C module removed?

its cheaper to manufacture all the cars with the same a/c control head than to make different ones for the cars with no a/c, it also makes it easier to add a/c later on because all the wiring and evaporator core is usually there.

Yaris is an exception then. The models without AC have that button blank, check this pic (http://www.cheviotsom.co.uk/admin/assets/Yaris%20for%20website%20013.jpg).

Yeah, that's weird.

Usually in these cases, automakers put a non-functioning dummy cap in place of the button. It's particularly odd that yours lights up.

In the US, all Yaris's have standard AC, so we won't have any examples of this.

^+1 Very strange.

For the LED to light, the AC Amplifier (ECU for the AC system) has to be the one for Yaris with AC (as opposed to the one for Yaris with just heat).

I would look to see if the compressor is present (belt driven device below the alternator). It may be that the car has AC, but it isn't working, so the seller just assumed that it doesn't have it.

mine didnt have a/c....no button

i would almost think the guy had a front-end collision, removed the a/c (since its sort of below the passenger side headlight towards the grill) and didnt replace it. hence, the button exists and works, but no a/c

but you live in vancouver....it doesnt really get hot

Do you have any of these parts in the engine bay?

1. compressor, as noted above
2. also the exchanger, which looks like a miniature radiator right in front of the radiator. This should be very easy to spot.
3. a/c lines, these are silver tubes that run warm air in and cold air out from the cabin to the engine bay.

And the belt will be different if there is no compressor pulley present to spin.

Here is the Air Conditioning repair manual:

There are some drawings of what the above posters are talking about.

When you push the A/C button, then roll the windows down ''VIOLA''

Yours might just need recharging.

I found the valve A / C under pressure.
When turn on the A / C no no clicks from a relay, and there is no change in the engine. I think it may be faulty fuse or a relay.
I would appreciate it if you lay out electrical circuit on the 2007 Yaris sedan A / C.

To start with, check the 7.5A AC fuse in the under dash fuse panel and the 40A HTR SUB2 and 30A HTR SUB1 fuses in the under hood fuse panel.

It is empty.

HTR SUB2 and HTR SUB3 relays are for the PTC heater, which is present on Yaris with the cold weather package (but since you said that yours came from Florida, it would not have had that option).
