i was just looking on kbb.org because when gas shot up the year i bought my yaris my jeep went down 3k in appraisal..
my 08 yaris with 40k on it retail value now is 13000.... thats more than i paid for it 3 years ago.
my trade in is only 500 less than what i owe on it right now...
makes me curious if i want to unload my monthly payment or not.. or possibly.. i love my yaris though and if i sold it i would be stuck with just my 2000 f250.. which would break the bank on gas lol.
just figured that was interesting that the yaris is appreciating rather than depreciating...

Unload a Yaris and drive an F250? How big is the tank in that truck?
36 gal?X$4.25 a gal = Keep the Yaris:biggrin:

Price of yaris will rpolly double in a year if gas keeps going up. Those morons that bought V8s and V6s will become extinct. Darwin in action...

...or buy a dirt cheap used yaris; that's my backup plan if I lose my current yaris.

Just checked my #'s. People are paying more for my used Yaris than I paid for new. However the invoice price on a new one has gone up $1,300.
Did the #'s on another thread. If you drive 12,000 miles/year with gas being $4/gallon:
A SUV at 15 mpg costs $3,200 per year.
My Yaris at 40 mpg costs $1,200 per year.
A savings of $2,000 a year.
I haven't seen you post in awhile TinyGiant. Where have you been?

This is part of the reason why we traded in the 2010 Yaris 3 door . Got $1,000 more for a trade than a month ago . Took printouts from K.B.B. , N.A.D.A. , and EDMUNDS of the 3 door to HONDA dealer as leverage . Got 0.9% financing through HONDA as well .

I paid more for my 2 yr old 2004 echo hb (in 2006) with 65,000kms on it, than I just did for a 2yr old 2009 with 33,000kms in better shape and with more options. Both from a dealer... Significantly more... $2000

Got 0.9% financing through HONDA as well .
0% financing on my 2009 Yaris from Toyota Credit. They also gave me $4000 for my ECHO with a bum auto transmission. They practically begged me to buy it.
What did Toyota offer creditwise?

but you got a honda... i would think you would go for one the new 40 mpg specials, honda is a company in severe decline.

REALISTIC? How much to fill one of those things? 40 gallons +? @ $4 a gallon thats $160 for a fillup! AT LEAST! I fill up twice a month that would be $4000 a year!
Even @$3 its $120! Realistic? Realistic? Even if they arent morons enough to pay that they are putting a big sign on our backs saying "KICK ME!" to the oil companies and hostile countries who sell us our oil. Who are rubbing their slimy dirty hands with glee over it.
Georges Bushes war in Iraq, Bernie Madoffs ponzi scheme, and now Obamas war in Libya. To which we can add people using 40 gallons of gas a week when >20 would do...

I have Dodge diesel which takes 35 gallons. Don't drive it much but I can't pull the trailer or carry plywood with the Yaris. I know people who will spend over $600/month on gas.

I have a 4X4 Tundra DC (V8) 26 gal tank, 16 mpg, $100 to fill at the present time.
It went into semi-retirement last month, when I bought the Yaris. I will use it for any heavy hauling, camping, hunting, fishing, nasty winter road conditions, etc.

I used to have an (old) V8 Silvarado with 175,000 miles on it I bought for $600 to do chores with. But I only drove it to work once or twice a month to keep the oil circulating and the battery charged. Put maybe 500-1000 miles a year on it. Almost all the 1000 cars in my companies lot are SUVs or fourwheel drives. I bet you could count the number of 4 cylinder cars on two hands! And some of them might be 2.4 liter jobs too!

I love my yaris. It is a great commuter car and i drive it 80% of the time over my pick up. I am fortunate enough to have 2 vehicle's plus my fiances mazda3. If i could only have or afford 1 car it would have to be my truck to pull my snowmobiles and boats. Yes the truck gets poor fuel mileage but for my self and the joy of my hobbies it is needed and still worth the extra money at the pump. That goes for a lot of consumers with v6 and v8 engines aswell. economy cars are not for everybody.

I think you are doing the right thing. A Yaris to commute to work and put most of the mile on. A truck...yeah that can have the other 20%.
Still...I pulled my 17 foot Bston Whaler with a 2.4 liter Toyota Tacoma NO PROBLEM.
