My daughter drove her 2007 Yaris hot (three times) and warped the head - Being an old shade tree mechanic I thought I would save her some money and do the job myself. I tore it down had the head resurfaced and reworked and put it all back together carefully, following the online yaris service manual step by step - Now I cannot get any fire to the ignition - It does NOT have the engine immobilzation system ( it was an option in 2007 in US) - I have checked the sensors (Crankcase, camshaft positioning sensors) and they fall within specs - I asked a local mechanic and he thought that my ECU needed reprogramming by the dealer - Is this possible? I can find no mention of it in the service manual online. What else could keep me from getting fire to the plugs? I checked the ECU fuses - all ok - checked the harness - all ok - the car was running (badly) when it tore it down - I'm at my wit's end. Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you getting electricity ?

The ECU definitely doesn't need reprogramming. Do you have an OBDII code reader that you can plug in to make sure that the ECM is actually alive?

Might be silly but.. is the battery still alive?

Thanks for the posts! I do have a reader and the ECU is alive - I am getting electricity to the places I am supposed to .... except the plugs - It spins like a tops but never hits - I took out the plugs and followed the service manual procedure for testing for fire to the plugs - no spark - these are new irridium plugs ($8 each!) I have gone so far as to take a volt/ohm meter and check the ecu and harness to make sure that the pins that go to the various parts of the ignition system are alive and they are.... I guess I am going to have to have it towed to a dealer. Thanks for the input!

Check the AM2 fuse in the under hood fuse panel.

How is the ignition triggered in our motors?

Could the cams be 180* out of phase with the crank/ignition?

scan for codes and go from there.
