I have been looking into getting some very plane jane black rims for my car. I like a black car with black rims.

I know nothing about rims and backspacing and what not. any advice would be greatly appreciated. I do not plan to lower the vehicle any and I plan to reuse the tires on the factory rims as they look to be 90%+ on tread.

I can get these rims for $85 each and get free shipping. I can also get the tires changed over for $15 each. total is going to be around $400

http://www.jcwhitney.com/air-wheel/p2024155.jcwx?skuId=885874&filterid=d17496y2008

also, I am going to have some factory steelies and hubcaps extra if I do this, what do you think they are worth?

I know, a lot of questions. thanks for any replies.

no reason why not?? love those rims but i ended up with drag dr16 which is also one of their line up..but the one you wanted was my first pick..lighter too..

why?

if you just want black wheels you should check around local tire and wheel shops, odds are they have something similarly inexpensive and it will save you money on installing.

my area is not so big on the small imprt cars. if it were a chevy camarro then you are dead right. craigslist got me nowere as the bolt patter (4 x 100) is different from most that are being sold and they all seem either raggity or overpriced.

the shop I talked to is the one I go to regularly so they are giving me at least a descent hookup seeings as I am not actually buying anything from them.

I have more or less the same wheels, more than happy with them :)

"why should I NOT buy these rims?" They are horrible knock offs of Desmond Regamaster EVO's. If you like giving a couple bucks to a manufacturer that has no originality get them.

so instead of getting the $400 rims (that is the price to have them on my car) I sould pay to get the originals at several times that price and still have to pay to swap out tires?

I'm not big into names so I really don't see the point in doing so. origniality is great when you are an artist. when you are an old guy with a kid, budget, and ex-wife to support, you pretty much get what looks good and is relatively cheap.

thanks for the input though.

Go for it man it's ur car. Most ppl like em, it's just it's gonna look weird because of the car not lowered. But you might like it and that's all it matters

DO it. Knock offs? Lol honestly it doesn't matter aslong as they can hold up too.

I just don't buy from JC Shitney on principal. But I do usually pay more...
Go for it, they look good.

I'd rather buy the original rather than the counterfeit. Originality comes at a price, as shown by knock offs.

I shouldn't need to for a guy who had 15 x 9 Work Meister S1's and runs his own tuning store.

Show me a replica that is stronger than the original wheel.

My Enkeis got wrecked on a pot hole after a week on my way to work.

My new ones go over the same pot hole 2 times a day 5 days a week.

Are you just mad that you bought the originals and not some 'knock off' for cheaper.

Even knock off brands have good quality ones, I'm guessing you are one of those people who if their wheels aren't the PERFORMANCE BRAND they are instantly knock offs.

Also before you try asking why I don't avoid the pot hole - don't bother.

You don't "need" to. I requested it. If you can't handle the question, that's ok by me.

You aren't worth any time, because you clearly have no respect for your car. Since this is a technical forum I'll get this thread back on track. Every working person has a budget and it seems that you found a wheel the fits the budget you want. Re-mounting the OE tire will work fine. Do you have TPMS? Some wheels aren't compatible with TPMS.

If you like them, then get them. They are good quality wheels. The price is good, plus free shipping! If you prefer to buy elsewhere, then discounttiredirect.com carries the same wheel with free shipping... and they will more than likely match the price, and they have excellent customer service... before and after the sale. BTW, if you have TPMS, it will fit those wheels and just about every other aftermarket wheel.

I don't know what TPMS is. I don't think I have it. please realize that I have been a yaris owner for less than 2 months. much of this is new to me. I am a long time car guy (well, truck guy) but a lot of the particulars about toyota are new to me.

I get paid tomorrow so I will probably make an order tomorrow.

I say get 'em. You'll likely have no problems with them.

There are some people that want the original. Just like some people pay the extra cash for a Polo shirt by Ralph Lauren when others are fine paying $10 for an Old-Navy version. Personal preference. If you're looking for the ultimate in wheel strength, durability, weight, and performance, these won't be it. If you're looking for a set of wheels that will likely be fine for everyday driving, the occational autocross, etc., these will be fine.

BEEF
05-11-2011, 11:30 PM
I'm not looking for the ultimate anything.

I just want something to make it MY car. I know that may be cheesy but I like them a lot. I just wanted to know if there was some sort of backspacing, lugnut, weirdness that I didn't know about. doesn't sound like it is.

I know that rims are a lot of personal opinion and I do really like these and the price is right. I can't spend thousands of dollars on my car regardless of what I am buying.

thanks for all the advice.

anyone know what I can do with my old steelies? are they worth anything? hubcaps?

Steelies I'd keep for snow tires. If snow is relevant where you live that is.

where I live the temps rarely get below say the 20s (F not C) so we don't really do the snow tire thing. I was hoping to get a little back on my investment. maybe recoup some of the money going into these rims. I know they are really inexpensive but hey, money is money and even a little bit will help.

my only comment is get the rims you like all i know is right now my favorite rims in the drag dr16 even if i get another car with 5 bolts in it id still get the same rims.. luckily for me i fell inlove with the rims thats inexpensive..

BEEF

the drag dr16s look pretty good but it has a polished lip.

I was thinking of eventually going with black lugnuts too just to black out the rim even more.

Take your steelies to a metal yard and take what they give you?

BEEF

usually you don't get much recycling stuff. I'd much rather someone get some use out of them. maybe it's just the hippie in me. reuse comes before recycle.

Post them on your local craigslist or something ask $100 for the set or something.

well, ordered them on the 12th and says that they are scheduled to ship on the 25th. that is a weird one to me. I guess now I am playing the waiting game too.

I am looking forward to them.

i bought a set of 4 steelies with tires for $100, without tires you might get half that. Definitely worth selling though if you don't need them for snows.

can't say I wasn't warned

this is the 3rd of june (ordered on the 12th of may) still haven't heard anything so I called them. they told me that the wheels had been backordered and they would not ship for another 3 weeks. when asked if I could cancel the order they told me that once the order is placed with the wheel manufacturer that it could not be canceled.

I argued that the web site says that the wheels would ship in 7-10 business days (which it still does) and someone that would order them today would not get them in that time frame either.

at the end of the day I do like the rims but it really does upset me that it may take 6-8 weeks to get them. I thought about pleading my case further with a manager or supervisor but I feel like I won't get far there either since it is policy.

I guess I won't be using JC whitney in the future.

cali,

I used paypal and several have said that i can easily cancel this through them and just not worry about it. I still want to do things the right way even if JC doesn't.

rockland,

I guess I have just never had that bad experience or needed their customer service.

I'm a vendor. When I drop the ball, my customer has every right to do whatever they need to to get their money back, including getting PayPal involved.

Cancel the order, then check with them periodically to see if the wheels came in. Order again when they are in stock. And report the employee idiot who said you can't cancel the order. That is about as lame as it gets.

BEEF
06-03-2011, 04:34 PM
with them, they don't say whether it is in stock or not because it is shipped from the manufacturer. even now on their website it says the same 7-10 days shipping. I doubt very seriously that they would have told me before hand if they were backordered so I definitely would not order them again as I would end up in the same spot.

I almost don't care. I am really not in that big of a rush but at the same time I feel as if I have been lied to or to some extent taken. I don't like to be done wrong (I don't think anyone does)

my biggest hang up is that it says on their website: NOTE: Wheels sold under the "Expert Series" program are specially priced and are not returnable, and will not be refunded. Order accurately, once placed, orders can not be canceled.
and I respect that but I also do expet them to have some sort of integrety when it comes to orders that take forever.

SailDesign

If they say 7-10 days, and then drop the ball on that, they have discarded the right to keep their other provisos. Cancel through PayPal, and tell JC Shitney to get over it.

finally did an online chat with JC whitney. my assumption was the worst they could tell me was what I have already heard.

they told me that an order could be canceled as long as it had not been shipped and since it was backordered it obviously has not been shipped. they put in the request and I should have a confirmation email on monday about the order being canceled. I made a copy of our conversation for my own records. I am not holding my breath on this one but I guess I will know more on monday.

it sucks as I was hoping to have these wheels on my car by now. I guess the search continues for a set of wheels. I was actually thinking of just popping the hub caps off to see what black wheels would look like on it for a while. either that or get a set of moon disks for it. maybe get them painted black. I have always like moon disks though i could never really justify them. my other car is worth about $500 and it would be stupid to put a $100 set of hub caps on it.

idk, I am just at a point where I don't really know what to do with my car right now.

I don't ever plan to deal with JC again though. too much run around.

Well done. I think that's the safest decision. There are plenty of wheel places that sell for low $$, check tirerack.com sales, 1010tires, discounttires.com, and so on.
Enjoy the hunt!
