Y-World,
My 2006 CE is throwing the dreaded P0012 code. I have 225000km (approx 140000 miles) on her so she's way out of warranty. I've read up on the Scionlife threads but the answers there are not very clear, nor are the threads on here for that matter as to what to do to fix this. Car drives fine EXCEPT on occasion, when I start her up, she sputters, chokes and idles rough for a bit until I give it some gas, then she idles fine. This happens mostly when it's a cold start. There are times the car will stall right out if I don't blip the throttle.
Plugs have just been replaced as was the air filter. Same thing. Is this problem related to my engine code then (the whole cam timing issue)?
Most of the reading online suggests it's not an easy fix but I was wondering of anybody on here ran into that same issue amd had any other suggestions.
Cheers,
K

Are you sure you read that code right as my list of codes for Toyota only go as low as P0100.
If it was this one P0120 then
theres a problem with Throttle Pedal Sensor Switch "A" Circuit.

Check the OCV(oil control valve).

Check the OCV(oil control valve).
Thanks. Saw your other post in another thread about how to install this part too. Since it's a valve, is there a way to clean it if it's gunked up instead of buying a new one? Some dealers charge $150-$320 for this sucker.

^ contact yaris2010RS.
I think that he may have a spare one kicking around. Not 100% sure, but worth a shot.

I cleaned mine first too, but It must have been a connection problem within the switch or worn parts because it didn't help. Disconnect your battery and pull the OCV then give it a good hose down with some throttle body cleaner, move the internals back and forth(you can clearly see the moving parts when it's out) to make sure you get all the gunk out.

just an update. I replaced my oil control valve with another unit. My old unit was faulty for sure and actually came out in two pieces. Car is now running again. Drove for most of the day but the p0012 CEL came back. :(
ECU was clear because my negative battery terminal was disconnected for 2 days. Looks like it's a VVT-i issue?

I'm on the road so I'm away from my book, but wasn't p0012 either the OCV or the camshaft gear? Any other options I'm forgetting? I remember dreading the camshaft gear being the potential problem when I had that code.

Yep. That's the code. We can rule out the OCV now :frown: At this point I guess it can only be the gear which is an expensive fix. The car drives fine. With 140000 miles on the clock I'm just going to leave it. It would make more financial sense to drive it until it dies (if it does even) and throw it a new engine when the time comes.

Sorry to hear there might be a bigger problem. I actually just broke my OCV... Oops. By any chance you have a suggestion on where to get one online? Bastard is hard to find anywhere and I don't really want to go to the Stealership. Especially in Germany. Euros are expensive! Thanks

Thanks for the site Mazilla but I can't order from them because they won't ship to an APO address (military overseas)... Dang it! I'll keep looking. Thanks again!

Would it be worth it to have it sent to somebody who they(parts dealer) will ship to and have them(3rd party) forward it to you? The part is so small, I can't imagine it costing more than 5 or so dollars to forward it to you.

You have it shipped to a place in the States and then they can ship to you? I did that a bunch of times for certain stuff when I was in Afghanistan.

Yea, thanks guys. That site won't ship to ANY APO or Box address.... Otherwise I have a 'ship-it-apo' address that usually works. But I may just get my Dad stateside to do kinda like Mazilla suggested. AND since I have a couple 'regulars' attention. Any idea if it will fit an 09? I'm guessing not much has changed.

As far as I know there is no change, but I have an 07' so I would get a second opinion.
