**update: The 2nd gen TC side mirrors also fit, with the same look**

ahh the good ole junkyards

the Scion XD mirrors look just like the JDM blinker mirrors, or it could very well be the same thing.

This is a step by step hold your hand approach.

Those without the power package might need to refer back to eTimago's LED install DIY as reference.
>>> http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6447 <<<

Tools (for the mirror install)
10 mm socket and ratchet (extension would help alot)
philips screwdriver, magnetic
xacto knife or razor

Step 0:

have it painted if it doesnt match your paint code.
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0643.jpg

Step 1:

pull out the door card and put it somewhere safe

(reference url >>> http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2305 <<<

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0651.jpg

Step 2:

unclip the side mirror wiring, if you have the power package equipped.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0653.jpg

Step 3:

use your 10mm socket and take out the 3 bolts holding the whole mirror assembly. we need to do this because we need to reuse that door bracket since the XD is a different size/shape. PLEASE dont let the mirror drop. take care of it when removing the bolts. use the magnet if you got something magnetic to carefully take out the bolts from the thread.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0655.jpg

Step 4:

pull the whole assembly out

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0657.jpg

Step 5:

unscrew the 3 screws underneath the door mirror with your philips screwdriver.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0659.jpg

Step 6:

You'll have to remove the outer clip wiring carefully with an xacto knife, if you want a clean install. you are going to reuse the clip, so cut as clean as possible.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0661.jpg

my technique is to use an x-acto knife facing blade away from the wiring and leverage up. for a fast clean cut

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0668.jpg

Step 7:

there's a plastic piece where the bolt threads are, you can pull it away, there's no adhesive at all or anthing really to make it tight.
you can now pull out the wire from the housing with no issue.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0662.jpg

Step 8:

do the reverse of step 7 and insert the XD mirrors.

Step 9:

rescrew the new mirrors into the housing

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0664.jpg

Step 10:

after the 3 screws are attached, and the housing is in one piece, reattached the clip "foreskin" back on

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f332/xienji/Scion%20XD%20led%20mirror%20install/IMG_0666.jpg

Step 11:

bolt everything up, and reclip the harness! The mirror adjustment controls work perfectly. Test it just in case.

Step 12:

wire up the LED blinkers http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showpost.php?p=585416&postcount=48 <<<click here

If you think the mirror itself from a yaris might fit the XD door mirror assembly, it wont fit. the clips are off by about a 1/2 inch.

Now to be specific, what year did you pull those mirrors from?

one from 2009, and the other from 2010..im very sure the XD side mirrors have never changed.

all Scion XD/Toyota Urban Cruiser(EU) side mirrors. there's no difference in them, really. I think some models dont have blinkers; but that's ultra rare.

use EBAY or car-part.com to get them cheap, or...if you want the part brand new its like somewhere about a couple hundred bucks, prepainted to XD colors.

Thanks. I went by the stealer today and had a sales rep fire one up for me. When he hit the emergency flashers those mirror lights did flash. Wondering why there would be a seperate wire for just those (emergency flashers) or you haven't hooked your electrics up at all but just installed the mirrors.

Interesting, if anyone can figure it out CT can.

I installed LED turn signal mirrors (the type where an arrow appears on the mirror glass) on my 09. I used the extra wires (for the 09+ mirror heaters {that we don't get}) that run from the kick panel to the mirror connector in the door to make the install very quick and easy.

Rearranging some stubborn pins, I managed to have my pin extraction tool snap and jab about 1/4" deep into my finger tip. I was dripping blood everywhere. I had to make a compression bandage with electrical tape and paper towel to get it to stop.

I think bloodletting will be part of the official DIY. On 09+ cars, one can save time (and donate blood) by using two extra wires in the mirror harness. On 08 and older cars a pair of wires will have to be run from the mirror connector through the flexible rubber boot that brings the wires into the door.

So, in the 08- world, pin removal is not necessary. In the 09+ world, the two extra pins have to be reversed. This can either be done by popping and swapping the two pins, or by simply snipping and reconnecting the two wires.

We did the drivers side door on his car with the pin swap method, and then I broke my pin extraction tool on the passenger side door, so we just did the snip and flip on that side.

Thanks CT. I think my biggest issue for the moment is trying to understand what from the original assembly must be intact to mate to the Yaris. In this case an 07 HB. I see some for sale off a 10 model XD but I can't be sure if the plastic connectors are damaged. What I see is the single connector I guess to make the mirrors function remotely but not any other wires to make them work ie: with power on and off. I guess I am asking are there more wires in there that I'm not seeing. Or maybe I should just wait for the write up. Might miss the deal though....ah well. Anyway, thanks again for your efforts.

Door Connections:

There is a single 5-wire connector on both the Yaris and xD/xB mirrors. Three wires are used for the mirror movement and the other two are for the turn signal. On the Yaris mirrors, that connector only wires in 3 positions.

The picture below is of the Scion mirror connector. The red black and white wires are the motion wires (and they directly mate to the wires with the same functions {but different colors} on the Yaris).

The blue (ground) and yellow (+12 V) are the turn signal wires. Because the indicator is an LED, the polarity is important (i.e. they won't light if you reverse them). On the 06-08 Yaris, the connector on the door has no wires in the positions of the blue and yellow, so you must connect a wire to each and run it through the door, through the rubber boot, and into the car under the kick panel. You have to two wires, since the sheet metal of the door is actually not grounded to the rest of the chassis.

42241

On the 09+ Yaris, there is a violet wire in the position of the blue mirror wire and a white/black stripe wire in the position of the yellow wire. These wires run through the door to the kick panel connector, and then dead-end at a junction connector way up under the dash. Since they save the hassle of running the two wires through the door, it is worth while to use them. The two wires have to be reversed at the connector though, since the white/black stripe wire is grounded at the kick panel.

In this picture of an xD mirror plugged into the connector on a 2010 the yellow wire (+12 to the LED) is connected to the white/black stripe wire (chassis ground). You can flip the blue and yellow wires by popping the pins or by simply cutting the wires and reconnecting them to the opposite wire (as shown in the second picture below):

42243

42242

Kick Panel Connections:

Access the kick panel by simply pulling up the door skid plate and then pulling the kick panel cover straight back.

09+:

Connect a wire to the violet wire shown below on the drivers side (note that there are two violet wires on that connector, so insure that you are on the correct one). Run the wire up to the under dash fuse panel area.
42244

Connect a wire to the violet wire shown below on the passenger side (note that the passenger side connector only has one violet wire). Run the wire under the dash across to the under dash fuse panel.
42245

On the 09+ the ground connection is already complete with the connection of the blue wire to the white/black stripe wire.

06-08:

Run your door wires to the kick panel area. Connect the wire that is connected to the mirror's blue wire on either side to the 10mm ground bolt in the kick panel using a 1/4" ring terminal. Run the other wire on either side to under dash fuse panel.

Fuse panel Connections (all years):

Connect the left side wire to the light green wire in connector 4B-14.

Connect the right side wire to the dark green wire in connector 4B-31.
