View Full Version : tire pressure sensors
I remember reading on here someone saying that the tire pressure sensors used on the factory steel wheels are different than the ones used with the factory alloy wheels? Is this true?

Can they be taken off factory steel wheels and put on aftermarket wheels?

From what I understand, the Yaris' TPS isn't in the tire. Check out the details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire-pressure_monitoring_system#Indirect

The (2011) Yaris TPMS is part of the valve stem so they are inside the tire. They can be moved from the steel wheels to alloy wheels. I had it done when I had my steelies replaced with the Scion 7-spokes on my Yaris.

I stand corrected. I was assuming that a direct system would be more expensive, and therefore not found on an econo-box. I even went and found confirmation, with pretty pictures: http://www.toyotatpms.com/

The TPMS from your Toyota steel wheels can be swapped into just about every aftermarket wheel.

All cars sold in the US now must have direct TP monitoring. That's what ford told us internally (after all, it was the explorer incidents with Firestone tires that started this whole thing)
