crush washer on drain plug?

Hello, Does the Yaris come with a crush washer on the drain plug from the factory? I did 2 oil changes so far on the Yaris, and a few on a 02 Corolla, guess what, both of them don't have a crush washer! Maybe the guy at the shop just tossed them away? Should i get one for my next oil change? Thanks.

Yes, it comes with one. You can buy them for about $.50. I always replace mine at every oil change.

thats what im thinking any leaks i know when i did the auto trans drain i tryed using the old crush washer and it dripped slightly so now i have extra drain plug and washers just in case for oil and trans

Nope, No leaks on both vehicles, i just put the plug back on. I will get a drain plug crush washer soon from a dealer.

Mine doesn't have one. No leaks either.

They tend to stick to the oil pan and not stay with the plug. I always have to tap them off the bottom of the pan with a screwdriver or wrench. They are an aluminum washer sandwiched between grey paper.

should be included in oil filter if there's one on the car. mine has a rubber gasket i think. idk...it's only been 6 months since my last oil change

I changed my oil yesterday, and i saw there was a silver washer permanently attached onto the black oil pan. Right by the drain hole. Anyone else noticed it?

mine has the same thing..was worried that there was no gasket..but that must be it.

Same here. I did the first oil change on my 2012 and was searching the oil pan for the washer when it was stuck on the pan! :laugh:

I just left it stuck there and put the plug back in. No leak. :smile:

This will tell you if it should have one or not.

the drain plug gasket on the yaris from the factory is a blue felt type material gasket, it is one time use and must be replaced after every oil change, it is by far the best gasket as it does a good job to not scratch up the surface of the oil pan or drain plug itself

mostly true, really depends on the last monkey who tightened it....with the exception of aluminum oil pans tending to need to have them replaced

Thanks for commenting on that. I was just wondering about this. Years ago I had asked a guy I was acquainted with, who owned an auto shop, whether it was necessary to change it every time. He said, "Nah!"

I've always done it anyway, but next change I think I'll try just reusing the one that's on there. Maybe change it every 3rd time or something.

My Yaris is a 2010 Hatchback. I've done my own oil changes. Back in April (2024) I noticed the crush washers I had just purchased from the local Toyota dealership were these " blue felt looking aluminum" type. Did an oil change yesterday on both my Yaris and 07 FJ. Both blue type crush washers had to be removed with a putty knife; they were stuck on the oil pan. Before April 2024 I recall the crush washers were a dark color, possibly black?. Also, I noticed both drain bolts had lost torque/ tauntness......never occurred when using the "darker ones" of the past. Anyone know if the darker ones can be bought thru dealership?, if so, part number please. TIA
