I don't know of anyone using one, but in theory it can work. From the CAN bus I can tell you if a door is open, if it has been unlocked with the key or remote, etc. So, all of the info is there, but if the device simply plugs into the OBD port, then disabling it is much quicker for a thief than for an alarm that is buried under the dash with wires connected all over the place.

is the obd and canbus the same ?
this should be installed under the dash not visible to anyone . it is basically the very same model as the non canbus only the harness is different.

The CAN bus is accessible at the OBD port. The violet wire in pin 6 is CANH and the white wire in pin 14 is CANL.
Just be real careful.
The CAN buss runs data between many of the electronic control modules in the car.
Mess it up and who knows what will happen.

It's actually very hard to mess it up with the robustness of the communication protocol. When you do (as I once did with a flakey transceiver IC), the ECM goes into limp mode and your warning lights make the cluster look like a christmas tree.
Thanks for the information.
As an electronic technician. I maybe overly cautious. I have had too many parts emit magic smoke.

Thanks for the information.
As an electronic technician. I have seen some busses get smashed big time.
CAN is amazingly robust. Most CAN transceivers are fault protected to +/- 80 Volts. As with any communication bus, it is very possible to shut down communications by pulling it down or flooding it with traffic, but in the case of a vehicle like the Yaris, the CAN bus is not used for engine control, but rather to let the ECM get or share data with the other systems.

that is great that I cannot damage something ;)
this is specially designed to be used for canbus and the alarm has own software which will communicate and collect data from canbus. I think I will go for it since the installation is easy. the conventional alarm will cost 250 to install :(
