View Full Version : TPMS Sensors with Toyota Alloys?

I recently acquired some Toyota MR2 alloys for my car, and while at my buddies tires shop getting my tires swapped, we tried putting my TPMS sensors on the alloys. They fit, but there was a small air leak. The angle of the sensors is perfect, but the MR2 alloys didn't have a nice flat "seat" like my factory steelies had. I'm running now without the sensors until I can find a fix.

Anyone have any ideas? New softer seals? Different tapered seals? I'd like to keep the TPMS if possible.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, you either get wheels designed with TPMS in mind, or disable it

where was the leak? did you reuse the rubber gasket or metal washer or both?

try just replaceing the old "O" ring on the sensors with a new one. Like a thicker "O" ring.

Yeah, I just took the sensors from my steelies, and placed them in the new rims. There was a SMALL leak at the inner-most spot of the seal. Right where the rim changes from vertical to horizontal. The seals do seem a bit stiff, so I'm going to order a new rebuild kit and see how "soft" those seals are. I don't need much, since they are so close already.

Will do. It might be a few months, since I'm trying to get the last 5-7k miles out of these tires.
