Any alternator's bearings will prematurely wear out if there is too much belt tension.
So. it may not be the alternator.
Also the fact that they are backordered does not nesasarily mean anything.

i hear you bro i did mention the belt tension to their service manager and they will take a look at it.. 137 back order does mean something..buddy of mine works for parts and yaris got the most ordered alternator vs other toyota vehicles.. but i did suspect belt tension..

Sure go to a local NAPA parts daler and see what they can do for you.
Toyota alternators are not anything special You just need to get one that fits with the correct amp rating.

most Toyota alternators are made by denso. Denso is available at many parts retailers (carquest I know for sure). I have had 50/50 luck getting the correct denso alternator from the aftermarket; it is best if you can get the Toyota part number and have the store cross it.
and btw, 137 on BO is very little for a company the size of Toyota, I have had Toyota parts with BO #s in the 1000 range. I had a Ford part the other day that had over 2500 on BO!!

Shouldn't be happening until 100,000+ miles . Had one go on a '86 Chevy Nova ( Corolla ) in parking lot of a McDonalds and another time at home in winter with temps in the 'teens . Luckily there was a shop nearby both times that reconditioned the alternator . Replaced it in the parking lot of McDonalds in warm weather and the hands froze during the 'teens at night . Both times were over 100,000+ miles . Car had 250,000+ miles on it . Made a mark with a screwdriver where it was bolted to the brace so it was same tension setting from the factory .

just start calling the local parts stores... most of their alternators are either in store or in distribution warehouse. most have lifetime warranty for the part as well. next time you will buy certified used toyota like me (7 yr warranty on everything... including alt) ; )

Alternators shouldn't make any noise you can hear over the general racket from the engine.
With all the mechanical talent here, I'm surprised nobody suggested just dismantling the alternator and installing new bearings. The job isn't rocket science, and the cost isn't high. Replace the brushes at the same time, and you should be good for years.
If you don't want to do the job yourself, get an auto electric shop to rpelace the bearings and brushes. They can also check out the unit for any other problems.

There's a nice little shop by me that does just that. You hand them your dead part and they rebuild it on site in the shop. When you go back you get the same part you turned over hours ago. This way there's no core charge either...

That's why I'm rebuilding the old one myself for spare rather than getting $50 credit back...
