Hi Everyone!
I'm looking to install an ignition kill switch on my '10 Yaris hatch (theft prevention). I had one on my Festiva; a simple toggle switch wired into a low power coil wire, worked great. Engine would crank, but not start. (btw, No one ever found my switch that I hid inside the car, including someone I knew years ago who, at one time in his life, stole cars).

How would I go about doing this on a Yaris? Can I do a switch wired into the low power side of the ignition like the Festiva? This car is much more complex than the Festy was. Unfortunately I don't have a shop manual for the wiring diagrams, etc.

And, the simpler the better!

Thanks! :)

There is a sticky thread on the 2007 years manuals here.
It may give you an idea on how it maybe wired.

is this meant to replace the immobilizer or to work in tandem with it?

Although I haven't put one on the Yaris, other cars I was able to splice into the ignition wire and hide a switch. Another option would be the wire going to or from the clutch start switch.

Hit up CTScott on your question...he may even chime in on your thread.

No immobilizer on my car, as far as I know. (has manual windows, etc, and the good old regular low-tech key, no remotes, etc)

Wiring it into the clutch switch sounds like a plan; I'll have to look into it.

Is it a manual? We need to push the clutch down to complete the starter motor circuit. So you could achieve a similar effect with a hidden switch on that circuit... You could still bump or push-start the car, though!
