I have a 08 sedan with the keyless entry system. It recently has developed a problem. When i hit the unlock button once nothing will happen, but when i hit it a second time, it will unlock all the passenger doors and the driver door will still be locked so i have to manually unlock the driver door. I tried reprogramming the remote, and even using the 2nd key with the remote, and it still doesnt work.. Anyone have any idea whats going on?

sounds like the driver door solenoid is dead.

Try unlocking the door from the inside with the OEM manual door switch. There was incorrect info floating around for quite a while on which wire to connect to for the door unlocking when installing keyless entry or remote start. If the wrong one is used, when you lock the drivers door using the manual inside lock, you can not get it to unlock again with the remote until you first unlock it from the inside. It sounds crazy, but just before I bought my Yaris, a woman on here from Florida had the issue, and then when mine came in and I installed my remote starter, I saw the same issue and figured out the correct wiring (which is in my remote start wiring DIY).

Scott,
What do you think of this system?

In theory there shouldnt be a problem installing these in a Yaris, but I don't know if you have heard of anybody installing one of these. :w00t:

Etimago has a smart key system on his that he had professionally installed. echo_hrs bought a kit and started to self install it, but the horribly translated directions make it very difficult to tell what some of the wires are supposed to be.

I read that you have made a Keyless Entry/remote start system? can you please give me some info about that?. My car does not have central locking system, do you have a kit for that also?
Thanks!

I haven't actually made a keyless entry/remote start. I have installed one and created a DIY wiring guide for it. Separately I created an interface that allows one to use a genuine Vitz, Camry, Avalon, etc. Push to Start button to start one's car. It still requires the key to unlock the steering column and to authenticate to the immobilizer if so equipped. I eventually plan on taking that to the next level by adding RFID authentication to it to eliminate the key and allow for automatic lock on exit and unlock on approach.

Awesome! does that Push to Start button system work as Start/Stop engine?
Can you please give me the link to your DIY?
Thanks!

Yes - My PTS inteface starts and kills the engine (and drives the LEDs in the OEM switch). Here's a YouTube video of it in action:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6zinlD58Eg
I even imported a bunch of the trim pieces that replace the stock one from Europe:

Here's the remote start wiring DIY:

Almost a year later, Im still having this issue. It's not an aftermarket keyless entry system, it's the one that came in the car from the factory. I did some research and checked the DOME fuse, and it is not blown. I have both remote keys and they both have the same issue. It's not the battery in them, because they will unlock every door but the driver. I reprogrammed both remotes, which didn't solve the issue. I even went as far as to take the door apart. There is nothing that would block, or stop the actuator from unlocking the door. I'm at a total loss and I'm starting to get annoyed that I have keyless entry, but still have to manually unlock my door. Could it be possible that the black box in the door (Im assuming thats the actuator) needs to be replaced?

Sure, it could be the actuator.
Do you own a multimeter, as the best way to sort it out would be to see if the actuator is getting power.
