anyone know how to deal with stress caused by college life...without the use of those "pills"???

remind yourself that no matter how stressful it is now, it's nothing compared to the responsabilities of working life.
Yeah, rather bleak, I know...
But stay off the pills. I'm not sure if you're anything like me, but try and organize your time, force yourself to waste less time goofing around (hanging out on forums for example , and spend more studying...

thats the least inspirational thing Ive ever seen LOL. :drinking:
Very, very true though!
Although those that work AND go to college... particularly those that pay for college themselves... those folks I have much respect for :)
The way to deal with stress is to get un-stressed... whatever floats ure boat, just don't lose sight of whats important.
Personally... I just go out and cruise around... even when not-stressed.
lol... get a job in a call center... then let's talk about stress...

There is a beginning, and there is an end.
If that isn't enough to get your ass out of bed and into class, you shouldn't be going! If you aren't excited for the end, why bother?

i pay for what ever i can in college, meaning books and class material. i do not ask my parents to pay for those. i also pay for my car, utilities, food, and what ever else i can myself. my parents have enough to worry about already. i just hope that FAFSA keeps pulling through for me.
i work 2 jobs and am a full-time student. i quit one of my jobs so i could get another job closer to home (L&L).

yeah, i've gotten that a lot...about the career thing.
it may sound weird, but this forum kinda relieves my stress a little. i like cars, so i go to things related to cars, especially a car that i have. i do my homework and study at the same time. kinda multi-tasking, if it counts. lol...i'm doing three sets of hw right now.

Dealing with stress ain't easy. Usually I relax listening to music, reading forums (god that kept me somehow sane during last semester's craze!), and beating the monkey :P.
Seriously now, don't sweat the small stuff. Remind yoursfelf WHY you're studying (your goal) and breathe when things don't go as planned. Just do something that relaxes you and specially don't pull an allnighter. Stop about every 2hs and relax for 1/2. Believe or not, when you come back things actually make more sense than when you left off!

yeah, this forum is helping me a lot. but all-nighters is a must with some of these professors! IT'S CRAZY!

wow, reading this makes me appreciate finishing school already. you've got to prioritize. with me, if i knew hw was worth 20% or lower i'd never do it. focus on what makes up the biggest chunks of your grade. also, professors are notorious for always re-using the same testing materials. see if you can find people who have already taken the class and grab their old tests. it at least gives you an idea of what to study. as for the stress-relief, your gf and/or a bottle of astroglide should always remedy that. lets say that its no coincidence that the moment i started going out with my gf (now my wife) during my 2nd year, my grades skyrocketed (not the only thing that skyrocketed). no stress = more sleep = better concentration/focus = better grades.

hmmm...yeah, but there's a few factors to consider with what you have said. would have worked two semesters before, but i'm going into the nursing program (hopefully). but before i am accepted, they will look at my grades for the last 30 units, meaning that an "A" is very crucial. so i would have to do all the homework and get "A's" on quizzes and exams. sucks...and for the same test thing, he's pretty much a new teacher, so he probably does not have many tests yet. i would think he would revise his old exams. about the girlfriend thing.
yeah, the nursing major is very tough and demanding...once in and in clinical, i would have to do 24 hours per week in a hospital in addition to classes and homework! not to mention i will still have at least 1 job...

are these classes graded straight or on a curve?? i never took a class graded on a straight scale in college, which was really necessary. i cant even count how many times i scored a 16% on a final and got an A- for the class. thats because everyone else got 9% since the tests were sooo damn hard. you'd think 2 hours to solve ONE problem would be enough time, but not in my case... there was a list of professors who were on probation for failing too many students or giving tests that were too difficult. oddly enough, i wanted to get those professors since they WERE on probation, so they no longer could fail a ton of students, and were forced to use a grading curve. if you ARE in classes where grades are curved, screw the hw and fart a whole lot during midterms/finals to distract and confuse your fellow students. the worse they do, the better you do. but if you're in a straight-grade system, i guess you are kinda screwed...

wow, so far, none of my classes have been on a curved scale...:frown:
the professors here are freaking crazy. it's like they want to fail their students. they make their tests so freaking hard and long! you are very lucky to have professors that graded fairly and on a curve. my English prof. most likely didn't even look at my profile. he straight up gave me a "B" with no justifications, nor and numbered scores. sigh...

Heres how I succeeded in college:
1st Semester : Did all my homework, went to all my classes, Bought all my books, no parties, no real fun
2nd Semester: Got an RA job, realized that I could attend small parties and not get in trouble (as I was the one righting people up; I mean why have power if you cant abuse it?!?!), Did no homework, went to all my classes, had some fun
3rd Semester: Opened a bar in my room (single room, something like 15x15), through the crazyst parties (well on campus ones), did little to now homewrk, scheduled my classes to a time/s that best suited my life style (Tuesdays and Thursdays), work at a pizza place to get party/spending money, dirty crazy sexoring of the females, secured my RA job by having my boss over at my bar (dry campus), secured a key class by having a professor over and making her mean screwdriver (no sexoring of her... shudders)
4 Semester - Above, less work, realized that you need to learn how your teachers grade: example - I don't believe in doing HWK if you pay attention in class and take good notes: so I would make up for the lack of hwk by doing really well on test (hence the need of good notes), participate in class.
5 Semester - Old boss left(RA); new one showed that he had a pair of balls and fired all (19 total) RA's at a pre-college start party... nme included; which free'd up some time...
6 Semester - never took it because I realized that I didn't need a bachlors degree for my job (all about certifications) so I left with a 2yr degree
Soooo the Cliff notes:
- Learn to know what your professors want/expect
- Get a good female/male friend with benefits: for some good old fashion sexoring DO NOT DATE (dating only adds stress)
- take good notes
- study for test
- Live on campus if at all possible (you'll have less stress if you dont have to worry about driving to campus, finding a parking spot, and then getting to class)
