Slightly Bent Steel Wheel, what should I do?

I got a bent wheel because of a pothole. Should I take it to be repaired or should I just ride with it. If I don;t fix it will it cause damage to the tire or suspension? Thanks in advance.

If the car's not vibrating while on the go or you're not losing air pressure, then the wheel is still good. The suspension system seem pretty tough on the Yaris (I know, cause I've already cracked up my steel rims...twice), so I wouldn't worry about alignment problem or damaged suspension components, but if it's not tracking straight, I'd address it asap.

You may like to watch out for uneven tire tread wear too. It may happen if the wheel is too bent:smile:.

Find someone locally who is replacing their steel wheels with after-market wheels and buy one of the old ones off of them.

I will be taking my four now uneeded steel wheels off to the used wheel guy here in the St John's area in Portland this week.

Thanks for your input, the car seems just fine and runs just like it did when the tire was not bent, so I will just continue to monitor it.

i dinged up one of mine on my old saturn, so bad that the tire leaked. i took it to the local firestone cuz i wasn't sure if it was a puncture leak, and they straightened the rim free of charge. :)

steel wheels here brand new are $30 - save the hassle and possible missfortune of losing a tire someplace and just buy a new one. if it was a set of aftermarket alloys then second guess the purchase.

Best way to fix it is to buy new wheels! haha jk! :p

Aaaah! The woofster did the same thing 10 days ago in the rain--only it was an optional 10-spoke wheel ($155). The alignment guy said I needed a new wheel but it hasn't lost air pressure and I cannot feel anything at all from the steering. But, the steering is electrically boosted and I'm wondering if that's covering anything up?

I'll probably get a new wheel pretty soon just too be safe.


(Btw, I don't have ABS and happened to slid right into a curb in the rain. Now, I believe in ABS since you can steer. My xB had it.)

If the spare's the same size, replace it with the spare and use the bent one as the new spare tire.

The spare is not the same here in the US. Good idea though.
