'07 Yaris LB Hidden Hitch and Trailer Pics

In a previous post, I mentioned that I installed a Hidden Hitch on my '07 LB. I also commented that once in a while, I'll be towing a trailer. Here are some pics of the trailer. It's a tilt, 3 place motorcycle trailer, but we use it to haul some trash bags and a few tools (brooms, squeegie, shovel, etc.). The trailer is balanced really well and the tongue weight is probably around 20lbs.

Test drive reveals that you are pulling a trailer (especially on take-off), but with the 5 speed manual transmission it's pulls nicely.

The trailer is a 12'X6' (including tongue).

Looks good Joe! You running max PSI in those trailer tires?! I'm sure some will chime in with fears/warnings of driveline damage, but the car won't know the difference between 4 fat people riding inside going uphill or a lightly loaded trailer on level ground, go for it! I do ANYTHING to avoid driving my Ford F-250. At least it's consistant, 12 mpg empty or loaded:iono: I only use it when I absolutely have to, and I crack up when I see some guy with two eight foot long 2x4's in the bed of his Dodge Magnum/ F-350, whatever, hell I'd use the motorcycle for that. You, I'd give a thumbs up to.

Thanks Tom...yeah I have a '04 Ford F350 Powerstroke Diesel that pulls my "home" (full-time RV'er) and just love to let it sit and wash and wax and detail it when I'm bored. Best mpg I've gotten while pulling my 35' travel trailer was 14...with one heck of a tail wind!

P.S. - My '02 Suzuki VStrom DL1000 motorcycle gets 48 mpg, and yup...have carried all kinds of cargo on the bike to avoid driving the F350.

Just installed my hitch... Now to find a cheap, light trailer... Can't find anything new in Canada nearly as light as the kits from Harbor Freight or Northern tools in the US and importing to Canada apparently costs more than the trailer does...

did you have to take your back bumper off to install the hitch?

i also removed the rear bumper when i installed my hitch, but i don't think it's absolutely necessary. it does, however, make it much easier to get the right angle for tightening/loosening the various bolts. the bumper is held with some plastic fasteners and comes off quickly(just be sure not to break the fasteners or your bumper will be flapping in the wind).

I pulled a 17 foot Boston Whalter with my 86 Toyota Tacoma from upstate NY to the Chesepeak bay once with my 86 Toyota pickup.

After a couple of hours I was doing 75 the whole way.

Total BS half the stuff they tell you that you CANT do.

Oh and I have a car tire on rear wheel of my motorcycle too....

My hitch arrived yesterday and twenty minutes later I was installing it. Didn't have to take the bumper off, but it too about thirty minutes to get the top bolts in. My hands are large and I had to use my fingertips to get the top bolts up there and tipped into the holes. The bolt gods then allowed me to hit the threads right so I could start them. Then, was able to get the socket on them to tighten. I did undo the bottom clips that hold the bumper on to move the tabs out of the way.

I will be using it to pull a trailer, once I find one.

I was going to buy a trailer, but how often will I use it? To buy a motorcycle and bring it home, and then whenever the motorcycle breaks down or I need to move it somewhere... five times for the rest of my life? I'll rent from U-Haul!

Considering how little room for cargo the Yaris has with the rear seats up, and what a P.I.T.A. it would/will be to remove my sub-woofer and amp and baby seat (never used at the same time as the sub lol) I'm thinking about getting a hitch and a trailer for the few times i ever need to haul bulky things... my real worries are how low my car is and the fact that I've never towed anything before in any car... any suggestions?

While my Yaris hated me, I found it deeply ironic the driveline took the towing very well. Just take it easy on the inclines and don't forget, brake-fade sneaks up on you really quick!


Just remember, you're risking very, very serious liability issues should something go awry. The Yaris is not rated to tow in the USA, and lawyers will have a field-day with your insurance (as in, good luck ever getting insurance again!) Of course, most Yarii owners in the USA are poor, broke, or cheap, so liability doesn't even equate into the total cost factor of towing. Until of course they lose their shirts then cry the "why me!!!111" sobs. :rolleyes:



800lbs is the limit in Canada, however. :tongue:

Home Depot has a 4x5 galvanized trailer regular price $599, often goes on sale for $529-559. Mine still looks brand-spanking new after dragging it through salty-slush, etc. Brought home a snowblower with it, actually.
