after replacing the first one @ the dealer:brokenheart: , i felt it's time for me to get an engine air filter that will never need to be replaced. dont really wanna get a CAI done or anything...just plain simple air filter.
Browsing through the sponsors page i found most places offer

C-ONE
K&N
TRD

i assume they will need so called clean kit as well?
Anyone had experience with those ones i mentioned above? how's the experience with the sponsors? i was thinking abt eBay as well.
and finally for those who live north of the border(GTA to be more specific), any experience in getting an air filter thru those vendors/ebay?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I like K&N. They come pre-oiled so you won't need the service kit for a long time.

theres quite a few different options not all of which will be carried by sponsors.

Ive always used K&N but im beggining to have second thoughts on using an oil type filter with a MAF sensor.
I would prefer using 'dry' filters and will try to find one If I dont buy a CAI.

here are some others.

Green Filters (pretty much k&n)
True Flow
Air Hog (Fram)
AFE
Airaid

You can buy the TRD air filter from Boom Plus Toys. They are a supporting vendor of YarisWorld. Message MC@BPT for pricing.

Your correct, filter oil can get pulled through the air filter and coat the MAF sensor leading to poor performance, even a check engine light. However, I noticed our cars have a sort of secondary filter. You can see it if you open up your filter box and look inside the top. Wouldn't this stop any oil residue from passing through to the MAF sensor?

Also, if you like oil coated filters, the MAF is easily cleaned with some spray electrical cleaner. From what I've been told it's only a problem on newly oiled filters because people tend to "over oil" them. I run the filter 1000 miles, clean the MAF(carefully), then keep running the filter.

Is the TRD an oiled filter?

i believe this TRD one is an oiled filter based on the cleaning kit they offer. so it shouldnt be a problem then. Experience with C-ONE air filter anybody? finally does someone know where i can get an inexpensive TRD filter in Beaverland? the vendor based on Van wants $140 CAD plus tax and S&H.:eyebulge:

I have run oil based aftermarket CAI filters on everything we own over the years... If you know how to recharge them correctly, you wont ever have any MAF related issues.

dry filters guarantee you wont have a problem.

dont know how true it is but Ive had a couple MAFs cleaned during servicing and was told that some oils actually burn and coat the hot element type sensors which permanently damage them.

Ive removed all but the paper element in my Yaris.

Ive removed all but the paper element in my Yaris.

The netting attached to the upper part of the housing inside is a charcole filter.... I have removed mine as well, and added two 1" holes below the air filter (lower box) facing the headlight housing... nice growl, and small improvement in the bottom kick. Not to mention, the car actually feels a little smoother when going thru the RPMs.

Any tips or tricks as to how to get the charcoal filter out? Mine seems to either be stuck or is riveted in place with plastic rivets.

Make a long Conversation short.............
Facotory toyota Warranty will VOID if you use a oiled filter such as K&N because of the MAF filter issue with oil residue caoting the MAF sensor leading to Check engine light.
*thats what Toyota Claims* Ive asked Numerous Dealers
TRD is 'I believed' Oiled...but its toyota so it wont void warranty if installed by toyota dealer.
Buy a K&N then swap the filters out when you take it to the dealer to service.
So Buy the K&N and keep the old one. Then swap when you need service
K&N will be most effective power adder.

I use a TRD filter "oiled", and I haven't problem, I used this about 1 year and clean only 1 time. I read in a site (scionlife.com probably), K&N make the air filter to Toyota.

In theory is the same...
