2007 Sedan HU, Amp, Speaker install

Hey everyone. I just picked up my 2007 Yaris sedan, Flint Mica, from a friend this weekend as a daily driver to keep miles off my 2004 Cobra. I have already ordered a few things for my audio system and I will use this thread to track install and show write ups of how I did everything. Tentative list is:


Kenwood DDX418 Double Din DVD playing headunit (ordered, Crutchfield, $400 shipped)
Infinity Reference 9623i 6x9s (ordered, Harmon Kardon, $72 shipped remanufactured, full warranty from HK)
Diamond Audio S600s 6.5" component speaker set, ordered for my S2000 in 2009, never installed, probably paid around $450 for them
JBL GTO 752 2 channel amp, ordered in 2009 for my boat, ended up using a cheaper one, so I have this unused. Also bought remanufactured from HK with full warranty, paid like $80 I think
Diamond Audio D6 450.2, ordered for my S2000 in 2009, never used, might not get used in the Yaris.

The plan is to install the headunit and go ahead and run both sets of RCAs, front and back at the same time. I will probably run them under the carpet through the center of the car to avoid any interference they may get from the door panels. I'll run my amp power wire down the door panels since it doesn't matter.

Then I will be using the JBL GTO to power the rear 6x9s. I am going to sell the Diamond Audio 2 channel amp and buy a 4 channel, then I will wire the fronts up and install the Diamond speakers. Still trying to decide where I will put the tweeters.

Should be a fun project. I have no plans for a sub or any sound deadening, just want some loud, clear jams.

Sounds like a good plan. However, I think you still might want a sub, even just a small one. I went a similar route as you, a simple, clean and clear system. But I added a powerful 8" to fill-out the low-end. I won't win any SPL competitions, but I don't need to.

Yea it may be an option long term, but I don't want to sacrifice too much space. I had 2 12s in an Escort and it was amazing. I sold the system to a friend who put it in his 4Runner and he did win several competitions.

Headunit installed, I love it minus not realizing the rear USB input is only for bluetooth.

Yea basically. Not a big deal, I just like the idea of my iPod being in the glove box out of site and having no cords showing. Windows will be tinted soon anyway, so that will help thieves from seeing in.

My sister's Sienna minivan had the AUX port on the dash, so she plugged her iPod into that. She started the van (in her driveway), ran in to grab a bag, came out, and the iPod and cable was stolen! I ended-up moving the AUX port inside the dash, and put the iPod in a cubby so people wouldn't see it. I don't know if that would be possible on yours. Maybe a USB extension cable that has a small/short male end, then route it next to your radio, then behind? I'll see if I can find what I'm talking about...

The end is short with a little wire that's easy to hide next to your radio, and into the back. I know local stores (WalMart, Staples, OfficeMax) carry them. Just an idea.

Yea I thought about doing that because it could be done pretty easily and tastefully. I am going to consider it. When I pull the headunit again this weekend to run my remote wire and RCAs I will assess the situation then and see how it goes.

Ok, so what is everyone using as a mounting bracket for the rear speakers? I could drill new holes, but the rear deck doesn't have a lot of mounting area in regard to the placement of the Infinity holes. Spare me the "you don't need rear speakers" argument, as I love the extra mid a nice set of 6x9s add.

Take a look at the "Yaris Sedan Deadening and Sound system upgrade" thread. This is on page 2:

Something like that should work, with some foam around the top of the speaker, similar to the factory speakers. If you have your own aluminum/plastic plate, you could make your own adapter. Maybe put bolts from the bottom of the adapter up, with the nuts on the speaker side? I'm also guessing the 6X9's in the rear will make the rear deck SING!

Seems like they are flexible so I should be able to establish a good deal between the car, bracket, and speakers. This sets me back a bit on time, but I am still going to run all my wire this weekend.

I have to figure out how to mount my amp to one side now. Any suggestions?

Installed the Infinity References this evening and they sound great. I wish I would have got a chance to install the amp this weekend. It rained so I didn't get to run the wires, but that would make a helluva difference. So maybe this weekend I will.

hi crackerballer. i was pondering on the mod for my sound system and i saw your thread which is what i was also thinking.

what was the final thing you did to this project of yours as i might try to do just that.
