There's not that many of us DFW owners on here yet, are there?
Hey, we're going to go run the civic at Ennis on Saturday Feb. 10th. I kind of want to see what a stock Yaris will run in the 1/4. I won't have my Yaris out there because I have to take the Tacoma for a support vehicle.

Tekmoe- Were you parked at a Walmart in Dallas on Sunday. Did you notice another white Yaris? That was me! Assuming that was you. Was that your car? If so, where did you get your wheels? What size? How much?
Thanks.

Your car looked sweet. Made my car look plain jain. What else have you done with your Yaris. What did you do with your stock wheels/tires. Where did you buy your tires for the new rims? Where did you buy your Yaris?
Thanks.

thanks. trd suspension (struts and springs), konig feathers, and bfgoodrich g-force sport tires. i bought them at discount tire. this was not a cheap upgrade and i did not intend on spending so much money...but oh well. next in line is my trd quickshifter that i should have next week. then led tail lights and HID head lights.
i gave away the stock wheels and tires to the girl who bought my previous car.
got my yaris at toyota of plano. i would highly recommend buying a car from them. excellent customer service from the salesman...but the finance people on the other hand are another story.
i will have stickers made soon. this website will be up and running within the next few weeks. i am currently looking for vendors to run specials for us. i will get this project rolling soon enough.

Are your Konig Feathers 15 or 16's? Also, if I get the 15's, will the factory tires fit on the Konig Feathers 15's? Will it look goofy?
Thanks dude.

Tekmoe,
I took the liberty and made up a flyer to hand out to spread the word about the club. I wanted to show you and get the OK before I started distributing them.

I am also interested in the business cards. Do you have the design already set up? If so would it be possible to get this, I can get some printed up also.

that's awesome dude! yeah, go for it! my business cards are very simple right now. i actually want to put a small picture of a yaris in outline form. i just have to do a simple photoshop job to make it look right.

i don't think so. the factory tires are 185.60 which means they probably aren't wide enough to fit on a 7" width rim. i could be wrong but i am pretty sure it will not work. you will most likely have to purchase new tires.

We need to set something up, stake out a Denny's or an IHOP or something. :)

Hi all as you can see how old these posts are there is actually not alot of support in Texas for the Yaris. Look at some of the pics that MadMax has taken with his car next to some trucks in his area. Alot of the people that I work with are lifting their turcks jeeps or talk about buying off-road rigs. I have met very few people that are in to modding cars here in Texas not like it was were I moved here from Kansas. Would be nice to hang out with you guys in the DFW area.

People in DFW, here's your chance...
It's going to be a nice weekend here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area, mid 70's and sunny until the beginning of next week when we're supposed to get a free car wash thanks to the man upstairs.
I know this is short notice but I'd like to propose a Meet this Saturday - read: tomorrow, 3/21/2009 - at Keller's Burgers (Keller's Drive-In) in Dallas. It's a 50's style drive-in and you can Google it - "Keller's Burgers Dallas" - and get maps to it. The address is:
Keller's Drive-In
6537 E Northwest Hwy
Dallas, TX 75231
It's on Northwest Hwy between Hwy 75 and White Rock Lake.
If you want to read some reviews on Keller's, here's a link to the dallas.citysearch website for it: http://dallas.citysearch.com/profile...ileTab-reviews
I'm going to be there around 7pm and I'll try to park as close to the street as I can. It's a pretty popular place to hang out and the word on the street is that they have some good food. It's a burger joint so don't expect to wine and dine unless you hit the 7-11 at the corner first.
I was at Keller's for a bit last night and there was a pretty good crowd. There were a couple of bike groups there and a tuner group and a couple of old cars mixed in with the rest of the folks.
Anyway, people seem to want a Meet in the DFW area and also in Texas so we have to get started somewhere. Maybe we can work this out to a monthly thing.
If anyone is interested in a South Texas Meet, i.e. Houston, San San Antonio, Austin or even New Braunfels or Gruene (isn't this pronounced as Green?), I'd be happy to come down for a Saturday or Sunday.
And don't worry, if nobody shows up it won't hurt my feelings. There's plenty of glow kits, chrome rims and street bikes for me to ogle while I'm eating there.
Drive safe,
S.R.

Damn...I just spotted this thread! I'm definitely in for a meet-up, and I can vouch for Kellers. I go to a Miata event there on Wed from time-to-time (my autoX car is a Miata). I also agree about needing more mod support in our area, but the Yaris is so easy to work on that I think we can accomplish a lot by simply banding together on tech stuff. DFW has a ton of good sources for parts deals, so we simply need to show our buying power as a group and plenty of shops will happily pay attention to us.
Laserdot and I will be showing up with our Yarii at some DFW autoX events, so just PM one of us and we'll get you more info, even if you aren't ready to race yet, so shoudl definitely show-up and "represent."

The Equipe Rapide event is on Sunday the 26th at Pennington Field in Bedford Texas. Bring a Helmet (snell 2000 or up, they may have loaners), and a check book. 4 passes is $25, and 6 passes is 35. The extra two puts you in the Rapid Pax, a seperately scored set of runs. It's a lot of fun! OZMDD is normally there in his Miata running for Novice points. Hopefully he will bring out his Yaris soon as well. I am running in the ST class, bolt on mods are allowed to some degree. Check out the ER web site. Be there by 7:30 or 8am. People that race also will work on the track to reset cones and provide safety flags on the course.
Hope to see you there!

04-22-2009, 02:20 PM
 Whoa nelly! I'm not coming out there to race  I'm coming out there to watch. I'm entirely too lazy to gear myself up to race. I prefer to stay in the pit area where all the hotties are and  stare  at them.
If the weather cooperates this weekend I'll definitely try to get out there and watch. I checked out the website that you mentioned but I don't see times listed that they'll be out there. I'm assuming it's an all day event, weather permitting, but is there a specific time that the Challenge Cup #3 is supposed to run?
Thanks for the info,
S.R.

See you on Sunday!

Well, sadly I arrived too late to see any of the competition but I did get to spend a few minutes talking with Lazerdot. He even let me start his car and listen to the exhaust. And that, my friends, was cool. It got even cooler when he handed me the keys to his car and let me run circles around all those empty parking spaces. I didn't do much but rev it up a few times and make a couple of rights and lefts and then park it again but it was fun.
And Lazer, the company that makes the ScanGuageII is Linear Logic. The shop that I bought my ScanGuageII at is called ExaTorq and it's here in Garland. The ScanGuageII website has a page with a map for all their retailers so be sure to check for one around you or you can buy direct from Linear Logic. I did see that they are shipping from current stock so I'm guessing that means they aren't on back order any more.
From what Lazerdot told me, I got to the AutoX not too long after one of the other YarisWorld folks had left. If I recall correctly, I think he told me it was LilRedRocket but I could be mistaken. It's been known to happen before.
I definitely agree that we need to get something going. There's just too many of us here in the great state of Texas to sit on our duffs and wait for Governor Rick Perry to decide if he wants to split from the rest of America and let Chuck Norris run for El Prezidenty.
I'd like to get feedback on when to have a meet? Once a month? Every 2 weeks? What do you folks think? We could set something up in conjunction with the folks down in Houston, San Antonio and Austin. Maybe meet up here one month, go to Houston the next month, go to Austin the next month and so on; rotate between cities to get some exposure for us.
You all think about it and toss up a reply or a flame or some smack talk, lol, whatever.
Drive safe and keep the shiny side up,
S.R.

I have no regret buying my Solstice when I did. It's an absolute kick ass car and I have enjoyed every single second of owning it.
I'm really glad to see more Texas Yaris owners. When I started this club up there was really only a small handful of interested patrons. But it now appears there are quite a few. I scrolled a few posts up and actually saw some of you guys had a meet?! That's awesome!!!
I really wanted to keep the txyarisclub.com website but I've been so busy with life in general that I had no way to maintain it so I let it expire. Maybe someone might be interested in starting it back up. I think I still have a bunch of the txyarisclub.com stickers I had made. I'd be willing to give them to whoever wants to start the site back up.

Ok folks, it's time to schedule another meet for the folks in DFW group. I'm looking at the calendar now and there's a few dates that come to mind but it's a little tight for the next month.
Possible Dates:
May 9-10 (10th is Mother's Day)
May 16-17 (16th is Armed Forces Day)
May 23-24 (25th is Memorial Day Observed)
May 30-31 (30th is actually Memorial Day)
June 6-7 (empty)
June 13-14 (14th is Flag Day)
June 20-21 (21 is Father's Day)
June 27-28 (empty)
Possible locations:
Keller's Drive-In
Other suggestions welcome!
Ok folks, there's the official holiday list coming up so let's pick a date and pick a location.

I'm sorry to hear about that LilRed. Too many people are being hurt by this economy crap. I don't know what line of work you were in but if it's ok for me to put in a shameless plug, you might try looking at Pepsi's website below. It's where I work as a contractor and it's a decent place to be. If it's not ok to have that link posted, please let me know and I'll remove it asap.

Meeting close to the location of the AutoX is a great idea. It took me about an hour to drive to the AutoX but I stayed on city streets and didn't take the highway.
I have no idea about where to meet over there so someone will have to find a place that could work. I will gladly come out to a meet over there.

Ok... so I'm putting the dates on a big round spinning board thingy. I'm spinning the board and watching the dates go whirling around and around. Now I'm dizzy... Round and round it goes, where it stops, nobody knows...
And the date is?
 May 17th
Ok folks, there you have it. May 17th for the next DFW meeting and Yaris Yak (thank you lazerdot ). I'm setting a tentative location as Keller's Drive-In unless someone suggests something closer to the Mid-cities area. And please feel free to suggest another location if you know of a place where we can gather in hordes and plot word domination over cheeseburgers and milkshakes.
I'd really like to get a group organized. I've seen lots of Yarii (is there a correct plural for us?) on the road between Garland and Plano but I don't have cards yet to be passing out to folks. I'm being lazy on making some up.
Anyway, clear your calendars folks and lets meet.

I guess it would help if I set a time. I agree with you Lazerdot and would like to have it later in the afternoon. Keller's is open from 11am - 11pm on Sundays (I just called them to verify this) and so we could probably start at 6:30pm or 7:00pm. We don't have to stay until 11pm but that gives us a while to sit and chat and have a couple of milkshakes.
We can adjust the time as needed.
Also Lazerdot, what time is the auto-x that you're going to that day and where's it at? If it's not too far out I'd like to come out again and see. This time I'd like to get there before everything's done though, unlike last time when I got there too late.

Hey Lazerdot, are your spring stiffeners loose in your spring or are they pretty snug. The reason I'm asking is because I bought some last night and installed them today at work and when I let my car down the stiffeners were still pretty loose. Maybe my coils have more space between them. Any thoughts on this?
Lazerdot
05-19-2009, 11:10 PM
Actually mine fit pretty tight. In fact, even when unloaded on the jack stand they were hard to spool around the lower coil. I'll try and get a height on the tommorow for you. These were bought by YarStar for his front coil overs. They seem to fit very well in the back.
I'll be heading to Houston early on Sunday morning. We could all meet on 45 somewhere prior to the event and drive in as a group.
SaerinRhoe
05-20-2009, 07:18 PM
Regarding the trip to Houston on Sunday, May 24th, for the NST event:
If you'd be interested in meeting Sunday morning before the trip, there's a bunch of gas stations and fast food joints at 45 and Palestine Rd in Hutchins, Tx.
The address of the McDonalds is 108 N I-45, Hutchins, Tx, 75141.
Changed!! It was requested that the premeet be moved to the I-45 & 287 area so that it's more convenient for people coming from Ft. Worth. That's a good idea. That puts the pre-trip meet in Ennis and I've suggested through PMs that we meet at I-45 and Ennis Ave/287S/34 where there's a bunch of gas stations and fast-food places.
Let me know if you're interested in meeting here Sunday morning so that we can all drive down together.
Thanks,
S.R.

Hi Chongo,
Nice to see you on the forums. I'm not sure who's doing the Texas Yaris Club website but it hasn't been working for a while now.
You're more than welcome to watch for threads with "DFW Yaris Yak" in the title because we try to keep regular postings here and we do go down to Houston frequently.
I know LRR goes down to Houston almost every month when NST puts on a practice or demo day and I went down for the demo in May with LilRedRocket and Lazerdot and the practice last weekend.

Hey, SA is represented on here! :headbang:
Actually, last night I saw a nice red hatchback with mag wheels on it out where I live. I think the guy works on Lackland AFB as well, as I saw it a week or two ago going out of our parking lot. I was in the Jeep, but I know roughly which neighborhood he lives in and plan to swing by one of these days in my Yaris to drop a YarisWorld card on him (if I don't catch him at work).
There is another black hatch with mags on it in my neighborhood (I live outside of 1604 near Helotes) and I see a similar car parked at a convenience store just north of 410 on Bandera Road all the time (I think they work there).
There aren't a lot of Yarii running around but some, I see another black one with mags on it all the time along 1604 between New Guilbeau and Braun (so they must live in the area as well). It'd be nice if we could all meet up someplace after the new year!

We gotta get the small SA Yaris contingent here together for a meet soon! :drinking:
You'll probably see me one of these days as that are the areas I frequent. I live up near Helotes and work on Lackland, 1604 to 151 to 410 to 90 is my usual commute, and I am always running around in my Yaris up on the NW side of town!
You'll know it's me when you see me, I always wave at other Yaris hatches (I am a hatch snob! :moon:) and have actually tracked a few down. I was at the Academy at 1604 and 281 a few weeks ago and struck up a conversation with a woman and her son about their Yaris hatch (I had my Jeep). A few days later a guy I work with asked me if I was doing some Yaris yapping over the weekend, which confused me at first until he told me it was his wife and son! They told him about some guy in a Jeep talking about his black hatch, and he figured their couldn't be two people in San Antonio matching that description. I didn't realize it was his Yaris as she just had it cleaned and detailed (he doesn't keep his as nice as I do mine!).
It's a small Yaris world! :headbang:

I think an early Saturday evening for a SA meet would work best. It'd be better someplace that has a bigger parking lot so we could capture a corner of it to line up the cars (we used to do this with the Texas Jeep Corps). Once the days get longer, we could try one during the week if that is more convenient for folks.
We probably need to start a separate thread for it, otherwise it gets buried in this one. Let me know what you think and we'll just pick a date and run with it!

Naw, nothing personal towards the folks that live there; but I really can't stand Houston! I was there back in October for the big gun show and couldn't get out of that town fast enough...
I think we have enough folks in the SA area to have our own meet. Maybe out in Helotes at Floor's Country Store or somewhere else famous (Spechts?).

Might be, can never tell what the weekends hold for us. Where do you want to meet? Hills and Dales might be a bit packed being the weekend, especially if our temps remain in the 70s like expected. Smashburger in the Bandera Pointe shopping center (Bander &1604) might not be a bad idea since the bigger parking lot should allow us all to park to gether. I hope you, Mad Max, and other members in San Antonio are staying safe and relatively dry in spite of some flash floods there in SA. I heard earlier on Saturday that some houses had 4 feet of water in them and then a couple of hours ago I heard your mayor announce (IIRC re the numbers) that some places had received 9 inches of rain in 15 hours :eyebulge:.
In 2007 I was driving my Yaris back to Califorrnia (after a trip to Florida, etc) and scheduled a particular dat to check out Houston (staying the night before and after so I would have a full day). I arrived in Houston, spent the night, and planned to spend that next day getting more familiar with areas that had been recommended to me by friends who now live in California. Unfortunately, that day ended up being the day Tropical Storm Erin occurred. My hotel was in the worst hit section of the city (11 inches of rain) and I stayed inside my hotel all day....so I know how wet some of your city is right now (It was much easier for me though, as all of my belongings were still dry in California)....and it's so localized......240+ miles away here and not a drop!

Thanks Nook, we survived although some folks were really hit hard by the rain!
I worked a police volunteer patrol on the north side of town when the rain hit on Friday, things were a real mess!
Afterward it took me nearly two hours to get home, which is normally a half-hour drive at the most. I finally ended up heading north outside the city about six miles, then west until I could find some open road to get back south to the NW side of SA where I live.
I still saw a lot of accidents; mostly vehicles off the road because the drivers were going too fast for conditions.
And even driving a Jeep (I almost took my Yaris, as the prediction wasn't nearly as bad as it turned out to be. I'm glad I took my Jeep!), I take it easy when there is so much water on the roads. I had idiots passing by me not only sending water spraying in all directions, but most likely hydroplaning due to their speed as well. What was worse were the number of morons driving in such bad visibility with no lights on.
I've seen people driving in heavy rains with their hazards on, but when you get next to them they're on their cell phone. That drives me crazy.
The bottom line is avoid the roads if possible anytime it rains that bad here, and if you can't try to find routes that are less congested as you have a better chance the less idiots there are on the road. Also, whatever you do, don't try to cross any flooded roadways!
I think it was the third or even second heaviest rain ever recorded in SA!
Cheers! M2

Wow. We had a sprinkle here in the early daylight this morning, but it only lasted for a few minutes.
With all of the growth taking place in the Texas Urban Triangle, more people who use cell phones in an intelligent manner are moving in...but more 'idiot cell phone users' are likely moving in as well. I just hope we don't reach the level of 'cell phone idiocy' (re driving) that I've seen and heard others talk about in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties in Florida.

Howdy Speedy! We were just up in Austin the weekend before last at Camp Mabry. I am actually surprised that we didn't see more Yarii given Austin's college environment and more liberal leanings...
Don't get me wrong, I love the town but it does have a certain "attitude" as compared to SA.
Hopefully we can all meet up one of these days. The other "car" club I'm in, Jeep Nation, has some really fun events and I don't see why we couldn't do the same. One game we played at the more recent one was "blind driver," where the driver was blindfolded and maneuvered through a small obstacle course under the direction of a spotter in the passenger seat. I think we could do the same with a tightly-coned off track in a large parking area or similar location.

Hi Speedy. I'm in San Antonio and visit Austin every few months. ^_^
I've been in Austin long enough to know people with Yaris's don't modify them nor are concerned with joining any group. Most of the car groups here are domestics mostly vette's, euro, few imports like infiniti, subies, 350z's which all of them I belonged too at point in my life. The scene isn't as big as SA or HTown or Dtown.
