View Full Version : WTF?!

So the other day the front brakes on my GTO started to squeal. I have a BBK which will be installed in three weeks so replacing the pads now would be a waste of money I don't have. But the squealing got worse and worse and worse to the point I was expecting to be pulled over for noise.

I take off the brake pads and inspect them. They are cracked up a bit but otherwise fine. I sand them down a bit and put them back on. Squealing continues. So finally I gave in and ordered new pads.

Late last night I decide to wash my car which badly needed it. This morning I get in the car and the brakes squeal as normal. I drive to the parts store, pick up the new pads and leave.

As I'm driving away from the parts store, new brake pads on my passenger seat, I notice something. NO F***ING SQUEALING! WTF?! for three weeks theses things hurt my ears they're squealing so loud and as soon as I have new pads in my hand they stop.

I know this is a Yaris forum but I needed to rant and no one hangs out on the LS2 forums. Thanks for reading and if you have any idea how washing a car can stop brakes from squealing please chime in.

And now that I've put new brake pads on, my wheels still squeal!

maybe you should have just left the new pads sit in the passenger's seat until you installed the BBK? On a side note I went toe to toe with a late model GTO last week and he got pissed cause I did so well against him.

fnkngrv,

nothing bridges the gap between a yaris and a GTO better than a good turbo setup.

have you had that thing dynoed yet?

^ Not yet...still ironing out the tune. Need to find my vacuum leak too. It won't be as fun to have up where I am now because you really don't have anywhere to air it out tho :(

maybe certain pieces got "lubed" by the water/suds combo.. throw some caliper grease on em and spray the rotors with brake cleaner and see if that helps. $10 might save you a week of squeak =)
Im familiar with LS2 as well, had a Z51 last year =P

You sure it isn't the wheel bearing that's squealing?

or it could just be the new pads just simply seating....new pads have a tendency to squeal a bit for a while. Do some in town, light to light driving, and the use of brakes will help them seat faster if you do mostly highway driving
