Cold Air Intake vs. Short Ram Intake

Hi guys, I have a dilemma. I've got an Apexi short ram power intake for my hatchback. Is there a huge difference between the cold air intake system and mine? My buddy told me that the cold air intake system was supposed to give me better air flow which results in better performance. Is it true? I just need some verification.
