Alright this is a follow-up to what happened last year. To catch you up:

http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31596

So moving on, I noticed today that there was a loud knocking sound coming from the front-right end of it everytime I came to a complete stop. I looked under the hood to find that huge plastic part next to the radiator came-off all it's mounting points and is just moving around freely down there. I'm convinced it was part of what happened last year because nothing else has ever happened to the car since.

Anyone know what the proper name for this part is? And I have a feeling I don't really need it as it doesn't look like it does anything but hold the harness and block direct air/dust to the engine, so do I really need to replace it? I know it's a stupid question seeing as how my MPG hasn't been affected at all by whatever changes in wind drag, but if it was there for a reason I'm wondering if it could cause problems down the road if I don't replace it. Insight is very much appreciated, thanks.

For reference, it's this part (source: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9473):

It's the right radiator side air seal (ET22 here: http://www.etimago.com/yaris/repairmanual/Exterior.pdf)

Not sure what it does, diverts air to the radiator?

Thanks! Now we find out what this is gonna cost (I decided to just play it safe and look at replacing it).

No problem. Try finding it here: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1433327

I got my water pump (Yaris), and radiator and thermostat (Camry) from them as they had the best prices for said parts.

If you can't find it there at Rock Auto, here's an alternate (never ordered anything via this website) http://www.toyotapartszone.com/oem/toyota~seal~radiator~side~air~no~1~53285-52180.html

Just to be sure I'm gonna have to yank this thing out first to make sure I'm looking at the right part. Again, thanks for the links!

No problem. Yeah, make sure that's the piece that's loose before buying anything. lol.

Pretty sure I have that lying on the floor of my garage...either that side or the other. You're welcome to it, name your price + shipping and I'll send it your way after you confirm it's the part you need and I get you a pic.

^I'll PM you for sure once I make time this weekend to take it out. Meantime it would help to post your pics though as I can't exactly see all of it, but instead have to depend on braille on parts of it.

^lol Good idea. Maybe I'll also draw the replacement emblem on a piece of paper and stick it on the front. Good as new, right?

But naw, I wanna do this thing right.

I can't find the thing now!! I cleaned my garage and it's MIA....that's what I get for picking up! I'm also missing a brand new pack of bungee cords, walked them in and then gone later the same day. I swear there's a black hole under my workbench.

Okay, found some time today to take off the bumper and yank this thing out. Took it to a dealer for a price. Everyone there agreed that the closest shape to it was the right-side stone deflector, like Rockland said. However, their computer said the deflector is a metal and not a plastic, therefore nobody could figure out what it is exactly (and Etimago's PDF only hints at it being a radiator seal, but if I can't see the drawing I won't know it). Anyways, took some pics. Only one of the mounting points looks a little damaged, so I suppose just getting the replacement bolts could be enough and I could improvise the rest with tape. Thoughts?

Finally a solution! I'm writing this number down and shoving it in the dealer's face. Thanks Scott! If there's someone who could answer this straight-up, I know it's you. Anyways, do you recommend a total replacement of the part and the bolts, or just the bolts seeing how the damage is minimal?

Just replacing the bolts will probably be fine. The plastic part looks like it is in good shape.

I might have mine still...the plastic piece anyway. We removed a bunch of the plastic parts and didn't put them back on during my turbo install.

I'm just gonna get the replacement bolts and see if the one I already have still holds tight. If not, I'll PM you an offer.

Turns out it was even more damaged than I thought, so I had to replaced it completely. The deal was that there were mounting stakes at the bottom end that got sheared-off clean, which meant a total part replacement with mounting buttons was in order. Anyways, I got the parts today and got the job done in under 20 minutes. Good as new :w00t:
