View Full Version : Yaris Competitive in Autox?

It seems like a lot of people participate in auto-x days and track days and such in the Yaris, is anyone really competitive or successful though?
I'm not a troll, I'm just curious. I think the car is a good handler and I'm sure with mods it could be much better, but wouldn't that bump you up into a level where you would certainly be outclassed?
I guess I'm just curious for stock classes, how does the Yaris do? What cars is it up against? And modified or not, is anyone really doing well in the Yaris?
Thanks

I would keep it in a stock class or close to stock, I think it does pretty well there. I make huge power, and so get put in SM where I have no chance of ever winning. I usually do make top third overall though.

Currently the Yaris is not what I would consider a "competitive" car in any autox class. Sure, at the local level you can snatch a trophy in an automatic rental car, so the Yaris could be a winner, but in a bigger field of competition it's fodder.
However, there is talk of restructuring the Street Touring category, and making the entry level class a place for subcompacts to play - banning the now dominate Civic from that class - this could give cars like the Yaris a place to play competitively. Fingers crossed.

And if you did win they could just DQ you for the rear hatch.

^ LOL, true.
And yes, that black '89 Civic stomps everyone in ST.

I wondered if it would line up against he Civic - that would be tough competition. The Yaris seems like a competent platform, it's too bad that there isn't a good place for it currently.

Punked on a few cars in Solo2 events with my sedan. It isn't always the car but sometimes the driver. I used to co-drive a 2005 xB and I could usually pull a second or two faster run than the owner.

I've done a few autocrosses in my Yaris. The car did fine. I'm the one that could use a bit more work!

My old stomping grounds... Back in the day we ran in the pro pits, had to cross the track between the road race sessions.
