View Full Version : Make a bargain with the devil...or worse?

So my wife has noticed the amount of time I spend visiting this and other yaris/performance sites, and asked me what my intentions were. She said that in light of other large hobby purchases that I have made in the past that didn't reach fruition, she's "concerned" about what I would be spending it on.

Over dinner, I explained that ever since I went to the local ARA track as a kid I secretly wanted to be a race car driver. That became more of an interest about 10 years ago when I stopped by a local SCCA autoX event. I totally get that I don't have the money or talent to be an actual race car driver, but I like to drive aggressively (or as aggressively as I can in my roller skate) and would love to bump up the performance and handling.

So here's where the meat meets the potatoes. She offered me a bargain. Yes, a bargain from your wife is probably less secure than one from old Scratch himself:evil:, but here's how it goes:

I can do whatever modifications I want, no questions asked, but she gets to pick out/design the paint scheme/graphics.

My first thought was that I would have to get a Hello Kitty exhaust kit (http://shop.microimageonline.com/Hello-Kitty-exhaust-tip-hket-1.htm) to match the paint, but she swore it wouldn't be anything THAT bad.

So I put it to you, YW: am I being Fausted, or does this seem like a worthwhile bargain?

How's she gonna do all the designing in the kitchen?

It seems that she has successfully stalled your advancement. I say let her do her worst.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'd say let her to it.

Really, I think she wants you to have fun doing what you'd like to do, but she has an interest in modding the car too...just in a different way.

The funkier she paints it the faster you will have to drive...make sure she knows that. ;)

lol. i agree with griffin. Put it to you this way, if its gonna be a true race car, your going to get scuffs, dents, and scratches cosmetically.

Me and my woman have a similar bargain. I can do what ever i want, as long as the bills are paid by the end of the month, she also has to approve any purchase I make. I talked her into the suspension. After it was put on she HATES the ride quality, but I love it. But I told her its already on.. cant take it off now!

How do you feel about giant pink penises plastered all over your car?

I wouldn't dare make a deal like that with my wife.

If your wife has the urge to paint giant pink penises all over your car, I think you've got more things to worry about then what graphics she wants on your car.

Nah, I'm just kidding. I just wanted to say, "It's a trap!"

If your wife is anything like mine ("Hey, look at that Neon, it looks like a Trapper Keeper!"), then you shouldn't have any worries.
