I have a 2011 Corolla, 5 speed w/cruise control. When in cruise, if I pull the car out of gear, the cruise remains on and the engine revs at the limiter. Should it do that? My 92 Accord would rev a slight bit when pulled out of gear, but then cancel cruise. Dealer said cars changed in 2006 and all cars do what mines doing, but when I said I had a remote start installed on a stick he said maybe it's that. Is this normal or not?

It sounds like the cruise control clutch switch is bypassed. There is a second clutch switch that is supposed to be installed on MT Toyotas with CC that closes opens when the clutch switch is pressed (as opposed to the starter clutch switch, which closes when the clutch is fully depressed).

I don't press the clutch to take it out of gear when coasting to a light or stop.

Ahhh - There's your problem. The low end Toyota transmissions don't have a neutral switch on the tranny, so unless you touch the clutch the ECM has no idea that you are no longer in gear.

Based on first hand knowledge, if you bump the shifter out of gear in a Yaris with the factory cruise control the engine will bounce off the rev limiter until you hit the brake or clutch.
