The hard plastic tray on my '11 3Dr has a textured bottom, but according to the dealer, there is no rubberized insert to stop things from sliding around. I'm not certain if I was being BS'ed or not...there were no other Yarii on the lot to compare to, so I cut some ribbed rubber to fit, and my Maui Jim's, cell-phone etc. dont budge when I toss the car into the turns now.

a simple piece of ribbed black rubber, cut to fit stops objects from sliding around.

Not that it matters to me now, but DOES there exist a factory rubber insert thingy for that tray? Or did I have an actual moment of clever handiness?

Yeah, I did the same thing you did. As far as I know, the car never came with the rubber. Another great place to put that rubber is in the glove boxes.

The vitz in Japan had an optional cover for it but no rubber insert that I know of.

Some years back there was a guy offering pre-cut inserts for all the cubby holes in the Yaris. Think it was on Ebay and about $19.00. Still utilize a couple of mine at least those that had a hard time finding their way down the shop vac.

or you can buy the kitchen aid mat , cut it and call it a day  , you can get them in the groceries stores . I think it's like $5/ roll , I use them on all the compartment box n the bottom tray as well .

I may get the grid kind that is a non slip foam material and place it in there, should be fairly easy to snip it down to size while its resting in the area.
