How much of a tire stretch is this ? no big deal ?

going to mount 185/60 R15 (7 inch tires)

on 7 inch rims

the Michelin recommends 5.5-6.5 inch rims for this tire and this size.


How much of a stretch is the extra 1/2 inch going to be ?

I am thinking it is not going to be an issue whatsoever.

Any opinions ?



I know TireRack will not let you order a mount and balance tires/wheels on a combination
that will be unsafe, and via the web they will spec the same 7inch rim size and tire
combo for the Yaris and mount and balance them. So...I am thinking...not an issue...
(I did get the actual wheels and tires from someone other than TireRack)

it really isnt much of a stretch at all. I seen people with old school toyotas that have baby supras (14x7) use 175-185 width rims all the time. Thinking of going old school style and using +10 offset rims? lol.

yea.. not that bad. only reason why its considered unsafe is the possiblities of riding on the sidewall under extreame hard corners. Used for looks and not performance.

185mm tyres can safely fit wheels from 4.5-7.0

this stretch reduces the diameter by a few percent

it translates to: actual speed 70 mph displayed speed 72

odometer miles lost...about 7 or so miles per tank

I have a scangauge and needed to tweak speed offset.

One other thing that tires that fit properly to the wheel do that is overlooked and those that autoX will tell you the same is they give you notice of the point that they are going to break loose.....stretched tires give little to no notice that they are gonna break loose in a corner and next thing ya know you are sideways and hating life.

Stretched is for looks and that is about it.

How is 7" wide tires on a 6.5" wide rim a stretch? It's not. That half inch won't make much a difference, and it should be fine.

Now if you came on here and said you want to put 5.5" tires on a 7" wide rim...that's a different story. And one that I don't personally condone for daily driving duties.

I have a 7 inch rim...so that is 1/4 inch per side of stretch. not much at all,
and now that they are installed, it is a good fit

these are 60 aspect ratio, there is still tons of sidewall and I still have sidewall bulge.

I read it backwards. My bad. It still looked worded awkwardly, 7" tires on 7" rims but then the recommendation for 6.5" rims. I doubt 7 on 7 will be even noticable.
